Great event. Was certainly worth the drive to see everyone again.
Here's a video of my two fastest laps ever at the Glen. I am leading Pat McMahon as we try to prove who is quicker, so seeing Pat in my mirror (at least for a while ) was good motivation. Coasting and overdrive on the back stretch is because I was running wicked high oil temps.
This is a lap later in that session after I let Pat by and followed him on a fast lap until we hit traffic.

If I'm really nice to Bert he might overlay some data but I think he is still mad that I beat him

Berts vids are the best! Chris,I believe your car deserves a wash and wax after that..
It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
Re: WGI Videos
If you and I were running head to tail, I am sure that would be sufficient motivation for me to run fast enough to gap you.Chrispy wrote:Here's my TT vid.

Here is my time trial video. My second lap was my fastest. I screwed myself by overdriving it on the 3rd lap. I saw the 2:13.65 click off on my timer so I was going for 12's. That back fired.

Nice run Chris! Right at the 13 second mark you can see my supercharger belt on pit road where it departed at the start of my runChrispy wrote:Here's my TT vid.

I have some huge files that I have to pare down before I can post them and I need to get my car to bark like Bert's does. Maybe it will if I shave 10 seconds off my lap time

Bert - If you don't mind sharing - what type of video set-up do you use and what software do you use to integrate the "real time" look from the "in car" view? The picture quality and sound mix(ie. not all the usual wind noise) is the best I have seen/heard and the streaming data feed matched to the drivers view of a lap seems like a really great way to analyze your laps when your out of the car.

Re: WGI Videos
I use a Vio POV HD camera in 720p 60fps mode (YouTube is only 30fps so the video is actually much smoother than what you see). I like it because it is all solid state, runs directly off car power, has a view finder to aim the camera, a bullet camera head that is easy to mount, and an RF remote to start/stop recording. It has some good exposure controls so I can adjust the exposure for the outside view and have the black dash go dark. Without that compensation, all the exterior gets washed out. It also has an external mic input.KKennedy717 wrote:Bert - If you don't mind sharing - what type of video set-up do you use and what software do you use to integrate the "real time" look from the "in car" view? I plug a Shure C606WD DYNAMIC Microphone into the recorder. The dynamic mic is necessary so that the sound levels do not saturate the mic. A lot of videos sound like they have wind noise even in protected locations and it is because the sound levels are too high for condenser or electret mics. The mic is zip tied in the rear of the car in one of the storage compartments. These storage compartments are not far from the mufflers. This location does not pickup any wind noise, profanity, or any little girl noises I might utter on track
TrackVision software does all the video editing and data overlay. TrackVision will read many different datalogger formats including the obsolete MaxQ GPS logger I use. It is super easy to use and set the start/stop points. All you have to do is sync the data file to the video and that's about it. They have many different dashboards you can use depending on what you are logging.
Someday I will install my older DVD quality Vio POV and get a second camera angle going -- they will both fire up off the same RF remote if I choose to do that. That will add another processing pass to add the PiP though, but it might be fun to have a rear view too.

Another key advantage of the Vio POV camera is that it has a global shutter, so you never get jellyvision.

Personally I think the aiptek gvs that I have looks very clear and for 130 dollars, is a pretty damn good bang for your buck. It even comes with a remote! The gps overlay is awesome. I would like to have that one day.

Re: VIO
I have two of those POV HD VIOs for the company and they work GREAT. We ran some tests on the newly released HD version while at Rolex 24 last yr. Microphone still needs some major help, but overall, a great camera. Solid state makes for no 'jello' effect. Make sure you get a fast card. Class 6, 10 or UHS-1. Anything else you WILL get 'jello' effect since it cannot write as fast. Nice idea on the mic. We use a lavalier and works great as well. Radio shack cheap stuff. Makes you wonder what kind of cheap microphone they use in all these cams. *Bert: Im sure you know this, but you can also control the exposure so the iris is not going up or down (unless you want that) by going into the exposure compensation mode and adjusting to + or -. Also, the image 'sharpener' option is horrible. Most people use this and without it, the HD image is much much better. Just FYI...again, you may know this already but it is good to know someone else out there is running this camera. We are sponsored by VIO, so any tech questions or suggestions, let me know!

A little late but here are a couple videos. First is just a bunch of laps from a day 1 session:
Second is my turn 1 spin:
Camera is a GoPro mounted to the inside of the windshield.
