The picture quality and sound mix(ie. not all the usual wind noise) is the best I have seen/heard and the streaming data feed matched to the drivers view of a lap seems like a really great way to analyze your laps when your out of the car.
I use a Vio POV HD camera in 720p 60fps mode (YouTube is only 30fps so the video is actually much smoother than what you see). I like it because it is all solid state, runs directly off car power, has a view finder to aim the camera, a bullet camera head that is easy to mount, and an RF remote to start/stop recording. It has some good exposure controls so I can adjust the exposure for the outside view and have the black dash go dark. Without that compensation, all the exterior gets washed out. It also has an external mic input.
I plug a Shure C606WD DYNAMIC Microphone into the recorder. The dynamic mic is necessary so that the sound levels do not saturate the mic. A lot of videos sound like they have wind noise even in protected locations and it is because the sound levels are too high for condenser or electret mics. The mic is zip tied in the rear of the car in one of the storage compartments. These storage compartments are not far from the mufflers. This location does not pickup any wind noise, profanity, or any little girl noises I might utter on track
TrackVision software does all the video editing and data overlay. TrackVision will read many different datalogger formats including the obsolete MaxQ GPS logger I use. It is super easy to use and set the start/stop points. All you have to do is sync the data file to the video and that's about it. They have many different dashboards you can use depending on what you are logging.
Someday I will install my older DVD quality Vio POV and get a second camera angle going -- they will both fire up off the same RF remote if I choose to do that. That will add another processing pass to add the PiP though, but it might be fun to have a rear view too.
