My DNF During the Relay

Post by Dtangard » Thu Jul 14, 2011 10:33 pm

I pulled the transmission tonight and found out my clutch disk disintegrated into a fine powder. Has this happened to anyone else before? I'm using the mazdamotorsports heavy duty pressure plate and an oem disk.

I have pictures but they are too big for the forum..

You can down size the pic at photo bucket.
I had the same thing happen to my OEM that came with the car had a lot of miles on it. Better the clutch than the trans.

Wow. How old are those parts Derek?

BTW: smart move getting off the track....It kept the relay moving. I first thought you had run out of gas as we had talked about earlier.

It was a brand new clutch actually. I'll downsize the pictures when I get home from work. I couldn't believe all that was left was a fine powder.

Move to an ACT unsprung 4-puck disc. I use this with a stock pressure plate (for SM racing) and it holds well and could be streetable.

Hi Cy. I ordered an ACT sprung 4 puck disk because I thought it would be a little less abusive on my transmission.

Either one will hold up better than a stock disc, as well as stay cooler due to the puck design. Just don't plan on slipping it much to get the car moving. Torque the pressure plate bolts to spec (I think it's around 22ft/#).

Does anyone have a clutch tool for a miata? Can I just pick one up at a local parts store?

Are you talking about the alignment tool? If so the new clutch typically comes with it, all the ones I have bougght had one, its just a piece of plastic you slide into the flywheel. Good luck.

Unfortunately this didn't come with one. I'm going to do measurements to line it up.
