Time for an inspection sticker :/

The inspection sticker on my car expires this month and I have some questions about MA state inspections.

The car is pretty much a dedicated track car but I need to keep it registered for at least 1 more season. Currently all accessories work, lights, horn, wipers ect... and it should pass smog with out a problem. The part I'm not sure about is the seats, harnesses and roll bar.

In the front I have a pair of Cobra fixed back seats with 6 point harnesses, the factory belts have been removed. The rear seat has been removed along with the belts and in it's place is a bolt in roll bar, the cross section is removable.

Can anyone tell me what the minimum I need to pass would be?
Does the rear seat really need to be there along with the belts?
I think the front seats will pass, but what about the cam lock 6 point harnesses?

You should be able to pass with the roll bar in and no back seat. I would install the front factory belts, driver and passenger side and take out the harnesses for inspection. Also run the car for Â½ hr some highway some back roads. Put some tires DOT with good meat on them. The worst thing you will get a reject sticker that is good for a month and they should tell you what to change to pass.

That is great news if you are sure roll bars are lgal. Want to add a proper Halon system (that is fine) but the roll bars, i have heard, are not OK in NH. Spoke with a upper ranked guy in the NH police dept about it. Anyone know if bars are ok for NH?

FYI Mike: the only harness setup i know that is DOT legal in the United States is the Schroth Profi-asmII, and that is what i use. Think all it really is, besides the usual DOT certification hoops, is that the buckle has the orange colored PUSH button versus a black lever. Hope this helps.

Roll BARS are definitely legal in NH. I have one in my Mustang convertible. Roll CAGES may be a different story. I can only speak from experience.

I have owned three street / track racecars (SSGT-SPA) registered, inspected and driven daily in MA. One with a 4 point bar, the others having 6 point+ cages with aluminum butler built racing seats and five point harnesses and just door panels. They still checked to see if the factory seat belts were installed in the front, most of the time. Iâ€™m sure the cobra seats are OK. Need to have the air bag in as well, if your car came with one. Being in ST2 your interior is still almost all there. I would put the factory belts in, if you still have them for the inspection. If you get rejected you 60 days to comply not 30. Just to be clear.

I still have the factory belts, but will need to install the factory seats to have them functioning properly.... If I'm going that far I may as well take the center section out of the roll bar and throw the rear seat back in. Fun!

Not a big deal, I was just hoping I could save myself the trouble.

If itâ€™s not a daily driver try getting it inspected before you do the work.

Please note that I owned and drove 1993 Mustang Cobra with a full cage for 5 years on the street with no issues. I really don't think that the tech at the inspection station is really going to care. If anything they may think that the car is really cool. In addition I still had the factory belts attached. You may want to just try to get it inspected first before doing all that work.

The front belts are still in the car, there's just enough room for them to clear the roll bar.

Was your rear seat present? ..or did you just have the rear belts and no rear seats?

Oh, well that's promising. I'll give it a try without going back to stock. Like you guys said, worst case I get a rejection and go back later with the stock stuff in place.
