Subie seat replacement

I'm looking at installing aftermarket seats in my Legacy. Any Subie guys know if I'll have a problem with airbag sensors, including the passenger seat weight sensor? I don't care if I lose airbag functionality (never had 'em in the Cuda

), but I don't want bags going off when I disconnect the stock seat wiring. Also, anyone know roughly what a stock seat weighs?

yes it weighs a bunch.

the front airbag system should still work if you have side airbags and change only the drivers seat. subaru uses 2 stage airbags, one for the front and the other for the side. now if you remove the pass side seat with the weight sensor it should disable both systems.

the drawback is you very well might not pass NH state inspection due to the airbag system being disabled. if you get your inspections done at milford, it will be 50/50 chance of passing. dont ask how i know.......

Yes, there are inspection stations and inspection stations

That's how I used to get my Cuda inspected with potato chip bumpers and no functional side windows.

I have heard that if you remove the passenger side seat with the weight sensor, and then you want to reinstall it, you have to pay Subaru $150 to recalibrate the weight sensor.

I can confirm the steering wheel airbag does work when the seat airbag harness is not connected.

I don't know if it's applicable to your car, but on mine you could plug in a resistor into each plug which fools the system into thinking the circuit is complete. The rest of the system was for the side-impact bags which are in the seats.

They only go off randomly with a 9 volt battery.

I think it's a 3 ohm resistor that you can jump the airbag pins with to make the light go off. That should help with inspection.

Recaro
Pole Position
New in box, test fit, never used

If you are looking for a single, I have a MOMO that is nearly identical to the Recaro's

Also have a subu grill and head lights, think they were from a wagon though.

Double check the resistor, I dont think its 3ohm for my car anyways. if you dont get this right, this COULD set off the air bag.

If the resistance is incorrect,you will only get an air bag malfunction light.The only thing that can set an air bag off is a source of 9 volts or greater across the wires.

The main SRS module will not send voltage to an air bag for deployment without a signal from an inertia (impact)sensor,main module sensor confirmation,and a seat sensor that is loaded.

Amazing what you pick up staying at the Holiday Inn Express...
