I think SPB. The forced induction will be the thing that moves it to Street Prepared. ST requires stock motor induction, although the header, and ECU can be changed out.
If that is the case, get rid of the stock rims. Go to largest rim/tire combo that fit in the fender rule.
It will be a tough class to run in. There will be some modded Subie Turbo Legacy's, Modded WRX's, etc.
But, if you want to just have fun, it sounds like an interesting machine.

Is there any class I can run in with the car "as is" where a roll bar is not required? Is the addition of the blower the key to it being placed in SP class? I wanted to use it as a back up car for rainy days or a main car failure.
I do have a Miata Mazdaspeed that has a few mods (Intake, muffler,H&R springs)Has a Boss Frogg Double Maxx roll cage.I suppose I could use instead. What clas would that fall in?
But the Focus is so DAMN FUN! It won't hang with subies and evos down the straights though.
The rims are stock size, but aftermarket lightweight units.225's are about as big as I can get without fender mods. They already have rolled edges.
Again,thanks for all the help!

If you take a ST4 car and add a turbo or supercharger and do nothing else- it's a ST3 car. I still think your problem is the flywheel. Since I'm going to be a Steward this season- I better brush up on the ruleschaos4NH wrote:I think SPB. The forced induction will be the thing that moves it to Street Prepared. Anyone else want to chime in ? Sam and I differ on our interpretations of the rules. Item 6b clearly says turbo or supercharged cars are bumped up 1 class from the normally aspirated version. Is the problem that the car did not originally have a blower?
Anyone...anyone...Bueller?

That's the problem with reading the rules alone;interpretation. There are so many ways things can be taken.
After reading the rules, again,it looks like my Miata MSpeed would have to run in ST2 because of the modified intake setup. It runs stock boost levels.
I'lll probably just take the alu flywheel out of the Focus when I swap the disc this week as the light flywheel is not worth the controversy it seems to generate.

Rule 6b has been removed from the rules for 2008.breakaway500 wrote:That's the problem with reading the rules alone;interpretation. There are so many ways things can be taken.

You are correct about the Miata Mazdaspeed, ST2. However, if you did change the boost levels, (and here is where I have a problem allowing ECU changes in ST, as most changes will effect the boost levels) you are moved to SP. I ran my Speed 3 last year, only mod was cold air intake = ST2. This year the intake goes back to stock and =SSA
As far as SP vs. ST, as I read it the motor is modded beyond what is allowed in ST. For instance, you can change the air intake, back to the stock throttle body and remain in ST, but adding a full new forced induction system? Adding a supercharger, where none was even offered, probably goes to SP.
Perhaps only the Steward guru, Nate, can say for sure.

The bump up one class rule is for a car that is offered from the factory as a n/a or turbo/supercharged. The turbo/supercharged car would be one class higher than the n/a car. Example: a 2.3l Ford Mustang would be say ST3 - the turbo version of that car would be ST2.
Adding a turbo or supercharger to an otherwise n/a car would put the car into SP. I'd say the Focus would be an SP car regardless of the flywheel and would require a rollbar & firesuit to compete.
Whether the car could attend a track day as a student - that's been kind of fuzzy.

The Miata ecm is stock.Boost levels are stock. My Focus wheels and V710s will fit the car so maybe I'll use the Miata as the back up.
I really don't want to put a rollbar in the Focus, however I do have a spare one out of an old fox Mustang that looks like it will go in the car.
Already have a firesuit.
Didn't really want to do a rollbar in the Focus as it looks SO innocently stock.
Chasing the Atom. I like that
I have had the Focus on track at NHM(I)S and Summit Point and it is a cabable car.
