Hi,
I have a 1993 Miata that has recently developed a tip-in stumble. The service manual says to check codes first, and shows some fairly specific looking diagnostic gear to accomplish this.
So I immediately closed the manual, crossed my fingers, bought an O2 sensor, and discovered that wasn't it.
Is there a "jump two pins and then count the blinking lights" type of work-around to read computer self-diagnostic codes? If not, does anyone around Eastern Mass have the required hardware that I could borrow (or is there a reasonably priced alternative)?
Thanks for any help,
- Peter

I'd check for vac leaks.
Is the CEL on? This is the link Luke was talking about:

I think you need to dump that girlie car and bring the Mustang back to the track...

After a quality shop did a freshening of the short block (new hone, rings, etc) and valve guides/seals, I'm still seeing a lot of oil smoke, especially on decelleration. Too much to race. I even resorted to a new mighty demon carb to replace the Holley 750 double pumper I had. I'm bumming out, Tom. Got any suggestions?

I feel that pain, I'm having the same only worse problem on my most recent engine. (There's a long story over the past year).
I your case, I'd ditch the pcv system, run a hose from each valve cover into a catch can with a breather. about $ 100 in parts from Summit racing or jegs, including cheap crappy stamped steel valve covers
