U Gotta LOVE a Girl with WOOD ...
U Gotta LOVE a Girl with WOOD ...
Ok, now that I have your attention <ahem!>, Since it's sorta winter time, I am already going stir crazy & felt the need to test the SVX .... so let me explain:
Ok, I'm sure you're wondering about the subject line there. Since I now have a house with a wood burning fireplace, I decided I should get some firewood. Found a local guy that had some dead trees recently cut down in his yard and just wanted the wood gone. He was nice enough to cut/split it. This stack in the pic is 4'x4'x4' (or 1/2 a cord or 64 cubic feet of wood). Wood pile is 1/3 oak & 2/3 black walnut. Burns nice (tried it out last night).
How'd I get it to my house, you might ask? The Subaru SVX. It took 2 trips - but that was all. How much does this all weigh (IE: how cruel was I to my car)?
Well, here's the break down
weights obtained from:
http://homepage.mac.com/jeremybaker/tow ... 20wood.pdf
1/2 cord of wood = 64 cu/ft
1/6 cord = oak @ 49 lbs/cu ft = 1043.7 lbs
2/6 cord = walnut @ 43 lbs/cu ft = 1831.8 lbs
Total estimated weight: 2975.5 lbs (1.5 tons)
So, figure I loaded up the SVX with approx 1500 lbs of wood for each of two trips - didn't bottom out once Sure glad it only had to go a mile or two down the road.
Who loaded & unloaded? The supplier helped load, but I unloaded all of it myself.
So, I guess the SVX isn't as wimpy as I thought ... should I try towing next? Anyone else likely to do stupid car tricks in the winter?
