Formula D on G4

Post by TroyV » Tue Oct 10, 2006 3:16 pm

I was flipping through the channels and came across a Formula D drifiting competition on cable network G4.

Ok, I'm not going to come straight out and say I detest this type of...um...sport, but c'mon! The course consisted of part of a banked oval, and a small infield course. Two cars would go, one would lead, and the other follows, and attepts to drift as closely and consistently to the car in front as possible. Then they are judged for points.

These guys were taking their jargin right out of the NASCAR marketing playbook.. "Well you know the Redbull snickers R34 Skyline performed well above expectations, and the new doritos high back wing we installed was great etc...

Call me old fashioned, but it is seems so rediculously wasteful to shred a pair of brand new tires in three drifting runs. Especially when tires cost so much for the rest of us non sponsored folks..

Yes I was annoyed, but I had to watch it. One of the guys in a Viper had four pairs of tires changed before the event was done.

Sorry... had to rant a little..

Oh, that's old hat. Subie drivers have been practising this on virtually all the COM tracks for the last 3-4 years.

Well. If I were into drifting I'd be runing these tires for sure. Maybe a Lavender on one side and a Rosemary on the other for a nice potpourri.

Oh man, those tires would be so cool - can you imagine puffs of colored smoke into braking zones. Put a different color on each wheel and be able to tell which one is locking up. Plus, you'd always know where Raj was on the track!

That would be cool.
Although, the waving yellow flags are also a good indication of where Raj is on the track.

Just for that, I'll lift mid-corner up 3 when everyone's stacked up behind me :P

Not one to fly int he face of fashion....

I love Drifting and think its awesome. I cant wait to get the miata superchaged so I can get into it as its a bit hard to drift a stock miata.

Heres some footage of a 750WHP Audi AWD drifting in europe, cant wait until mine is ready for next season.
