Palmer 1
Palmer 1
Before I assume that all the Palmer events this year will be counterclockwise, I wanted to ask. SCDA is on track the day before our Palmer weekend and running clockwise. Would be a nice pre-practice day if the lines matched up.

Re: Palmer 1
Jim, while there has not been any recent discussion about Palmer clockwise- the last time it was brought up at a BoD meeting- the consensus seemed to be let’s see if another competition club can pull off that configuration. The clubs that have done it thus far are lapping clubs. If you have a strong desire to run clockwise- I would encourage you, or anyone else, to come to a BoD meeting (3rd Wednesday of the month) and let’s talk about it.

The track was originally designed to run clockwise. I like Palmer clockwise (backwards)

Re: Palmer 1
I know when I went out in the instructor group in the fall turn 7 had a lot of sun in your eyes but when I went out with my student in was pretty much gone. The track is totally different going clockwise and it is about 6 to 8 seconds slower, but then I enjoy new tracks.
Re: Palmer 1
There would be alot of effort involved for various club volunteers to sort out new classroom material, instruction (student and advanced driving), get instructors up to speed on the the different configuration, along with helping the licensed drivers along.
We've done a good job of this in the past for new tracks so it's possible. I do enjoy how we change things up at NHMS, be fun to be able to do that at another local track. Membership should express their interest so the BOD can put forth that effort as early as possible.

There are several videos of PMP clockwise. Here is one on how to drive it clockwise. Everybody loves a new track and PMP clockwise is a new track.

Re: Palmer 1
I think the 4-5 S-curve downhill would be interesting.
Why is it that some maps show the downhill sweeper between 1 and 2 as turn 2, which turns the uphill S-curves from 4-5 into 5-6? Last track night in September they mapped it that way.
BTW:

Re: Palmer 1
Early plans had a kink between T1 & T2 that ended up as one continuous arc. IMO the flow/momentum is better and results in a faster T1-T4 "sector" without the kink. Track maps depicting the kink (and extra corner #) were based on the earlier track layout.
