Maybe we should classify tires by UTG rating only especially since the same tire on a different car nets different results. It is easy get too carried away

The only problem with that, Dan, is that the rating is arbitrary. Otherwise, I'd agree 100%.

I have an idea; I will volunteer to be the club's test mule. If COM provides a set of every tire worth considering, and works with Fred to get time at Palmer, I will run back to back to back sessions and quantify the tires. I know it's a lot to ask of me and the Shell... but as a long standing member of the club, I feel that I owe it to the membership to undertake this burden. We can start with whatever tires the Board deems most important, and go from there. I'll even pony up the gallons upon gallons of gas I consume to undertake the testing. Call it a Festivus miracle! Who's with me?

WOW ! Such selfless dedication to the Club. :D But you shouldn't have to provide your own fuel Ryan. The Palmer Track has their own fuel truck now, you could just raid that.
UTG rating is some what arbitrary but it is a statement from the manufacturer as to how fast the tire will wear. The lower the UTG, the quicker the wear which means the softer the tire(stickier). I have noticed over the years that once you get to a UTG rating of less than 100 it doesn't seem to make much difference, heat cycles and car setup seem to make more of a difference.
I still think setting tire points by UTG is the best way.

UTQG tire grading is done by each manufacturer. It is a fair comparison to tires within the same manufacturer, but not very accurate between manufacturers. We've even seen some questionable tread ware ratings that seemed to be for the sole purpose of making a tire legal in a national class. I'm not in favor of this grading system.

With the new tire points assessments, is anyone dropping from race tires to street tires?

Hi Dan. I'm looking to run street tires this year because of the new points assessments.
