Many of us have other commitments (e.g. children) that make if difficult to take off for entire weekends. NHMS is our home track (I wish we had WGI nearby, then I'd want 10 home events), so I support 4 events here. I know that I can try to make at least 3 of the 4. I can only support one away event and I choose WGI. I might be tempted to a second away track if it was WGI again...

Ya but no time trial and I would need to be sitting with an instructor the whole time. If I am making the trip to VIR, I think I would make sure it was with NASA so I could compete.

Last I heard was negotiations with NHMS for 3 events, Calabogie, Summit full course, WGI, Thompson late in year if they build it.
There is also a new Central NY track that is paved already and being looked at by the Prez. My favorite, Mt Tremblant, is out of our price range, as is Mosport, based on attendance numbers. I would, like already mentioned, be all for 2 events at WGI. Maybe we will have more info from the Prez after next Mondays BOD and membership meeting.

What is the sound limit at Calabogie; is the drill still that a guy stands behind the car with a handheld meter while the driver holds steady at 4K RPM?

yes, sound check still performed on every car. Not sure on actual db. Facilities greatly improved at Calabogie since COM's last trip... In my top 3 tracks.

Bogie is my top 1.

BTW: I'm 99% certain NE-SVT is booking Calabogie for the day prior to a COM event for an additional day of open track. It will be available to any COM members that decide they want the extra day of practice. More details to follow.

Regarding Calabogie sound limits, I found the following on motorsport.reg from NE-SVT's last Calabogie event:

"There is a noise limit at the track. That limit is measured two ways. In the paddock, cars may be screened by measuring sound at a distance of 15' in front and 15' in the rear of the car. 100 dBa is the limit with any spike over 104 dBa being an instant fail. At speed on track, cars may be measured from a stationary position to the side. Cars exceeding 92 dBa may be black flagged."

From my experience at Tremblant earlier this year, I can't be confident my car will pass an on-track 92dB test when using a muffler that registered 88dB - 90dB when tested by track operations at Lime Rock earlier in the year. That muffler initially registered 93.5 dB at Tremblant, and then registered 96dB after I stuffed it full of coarse steel wool. My perception of at-the-track dB measurements is that as a practical matter they are extremely subjective, and that if you're in any doubt as to your car's likelihood of passing, you would be well-served by knowing that you've over-muffled it.
