Hoosier tires
FYI: April 21/22, just before the open test day is an SCCA regional/national race at NHMS. Those of you that use Hoosiers could get them from Smarty at Northeast on the weekend. You would Save shipping costs and he does a good job mounting on site. You would need to order in advance to Robert Smart at (518) 622-0329 and racesmart@aol.com to ensure he has what you need. In order to enter the paddock on the race weekend you need to have your name on someone's crew list (like mine) to get in free.
Actually, since it is a National race maybe the factory people will be there from Hartford: Brian at (860) 646-9646

Re: 2012 Dates
I can probably put a few names on my crew list if my parents don't come up that weekend.

"A full day of test & tune sessions at NHMS. This event is limited to licensed drivers only -- all attendees must possess a current COMSCC or SCCA competition license."
Re: 2012 Dates
Thanks. I guess I should have been more clear with my 2nd question. I can attend the COM test and tune with my COM license and I assume it is COM run. I assume it is open track sessions, perhaps alternating open wheel and fenders?
Does anyone know if I can attend NHMS open track days with a COM license? I saw a thread from a couple of years ago implying that guys have gotten in using the COM license.

Re: 2012 Dates
NHMS recognizes the COM license for their test days. The format is usually listed on the NHMS website. Some days are split between bikes and cars. I am not sure about the splitting of run groups between open wheeled and others, but believe that is their normal method.

Also, regarding tires, I'll be running a group buy for tires in March. PM me if you'd like to be on the list for it.
Last year we got 8% off list and $6 a tire shipping. Quite a deal.

Re: 2012 Dates
I'm pretty sure that you CAN attend the open test days at NHMS with a COM license but a call to the track would answer for sure. We had a few COM guys run with us last season (blue BMWs) but I'll admit that they were brave souls with respect to their perceived safety. Personally I think you'd be crazy to run without a full cage and safety gear on these days since some SCCA drivers are crazy, terrible, and crazy terrible. If you've got all the gear, I think that it would be a good way to learn some passing/getting passed skills and to get some experience with NASCAR turns 1+2. Plus you'll see some "non-school" lines through corners that may make you faster or at least get you thinking. Remember to hold your line if you're getting passed (sometimes by packs of SMs within inches of each other). If you're erratic and unpredictable, you'll probably have issues with cars trying to get around you. Don't get up into the marbles in NASCAR for obvious reasons. Let cars go around you on the outside in that corner (assuming that you're in the lowest lane) and give them lots of room between your car and the wall at track out. WATCH YOUR MIRRORS.
Sessions are typically 20 minutes but they adjust the groupings (both length and composition) based on attendees: small bore closed wheel (sometimes Miata only), open wheel, big bore closed wheel.

Re: 2012 Dates
Sorry I'm a new guy...
I understand that you have to have a COM or SCCA license to participate. My question is... how does COM run their "test day"? Is it open track and there are no run groups? If I understand the above posts, those are referring to NHMS run "test and tune" days. My questions is in regards to the April 23rd COM event.
