Monticello in 2012?
Re: Monticello in 2012?
Chris Maybury is sponsoring the Spec Miata Maybury Cup enduro at Monticello on Tuesday, Oct 18th. Costs $50 per driver and includes almost 2 hours of open track in the morning and then a 2.5 hour enduro. Driver must hold a current NASA, SCCA, club racing license, or obtain approval from MMC’s Chief Instructor or Track Director. Might be worth looking into for licensed driver teams with a SM...

Re: Monticello in 2012?
This would be my ideal schedule in no particular order
3 NHMS
2 WGI
1 Mont tremblant/Mosport
1 Lime Rock (one day would be enough IMHO)
1 VIR
1 NJMP
1 Monticello
VIR is a major stretch but god how awesome would it be to go there. I feel like the club should be able to afford to do WGI twice a year. It seems attendance is never a problem there and everyone loves it. Anybody else agree/disagree on my views?

WG is well worth doing twice a year..or more. One of the reasons I run with NEQ is they do WG twice, and Limeorck. It would def be nice to get Monticello back on the schedule.
Never been to VIR,but I hear it is "Heaven on Earth"..(PLN)

It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
Re: Monticello in 2012?
Hijacked to VIR.
Wasilko, Recce and the 2 Bakers ran it last year with the Potomac Audi Club. Perhaps a bad choice in a Miata since the closing speeds of the 997, 993, R8, and 2 full race Corvettes were a bit quick....you get the idea. The track is so fast.
The uphill esses are not as tough as you hear. Delicate, but there really is a rythm to them. There are a couple of spots where you need to grow a pair to drive them strongly, and the most technical section down the hill thru Hogpen will drive you nuts until you get it right.
The parking lot is crushed stone, so its a little messy to work on, other than that the facility is lovely. Great condo housing on site for reasonable dollars. Excellent classroom and restaurant. Even gas was reasonably priced!
Long trip. We made it a 2 day, stopping around Philly the first night down. On the way back, we left at 6pm and overnighted at Hagerstown which made for a long pull the second day.
Definitely would do it again.

Re: Monticello in 2012?
LRP --- Unmuffled, definatly
LRP --- 85-87db, who ever could pass would have a ton of track time .... doubt either of my cars could pass even w/ all the add on's I have for them & then the consequences of increased engine heat ..... not a good combo
Some more US trackson the schedule would be great, esp. if they were NASA/SCCA related ...... simply don't attend the Northern tracks as my plan is to go NASA/SCCA in the near future & they don't have a pay off in "practice" ....... I do hear they are great tracks that are well worth running, will wait till I get older and feel the need to do the touring thing though ...............

The esses are probabaly nothing to be worried about in a Miata.... Try driving them in a 500 hp car and say that6PAK72 wrote: The uphill esses are not as tough as you hear. Now that we've gone thoroughly off topic ... this is what happens when you have 500hp at VIR and lose your wing.savage217 wrote:The esses are probabaly nothing to be worried about in a Miata.... Even a 175 hp 1250 lb. Formula car with lots of stick is quite a challenge in the Esses. I have done some agricultural work there.savage217 wrote:The esses are probabaly nothing to be worried about in a Miata.... VIR is a LOOONG way. Would be a big loser. We always could try to piggyback on another club and see how many show up. I am guessing about 15.

I'm for Watkins Glen twice a year and Mt Tremblant every year.
Screw LRP and Monticello.
