So true. Last year I did 3 days at Mont Tremblant with the BMW club. Even though it was my first day at the track, I felt like I learned more on day 3 than on day 1. You are in a rhythm, you can stop thinking so hard about the basics, and you can fine tune your line, braking, and throttle. In the 964 I took of 3 seconds between day 2 to day 3 even as the tires were drastically losing life from co-driving for a couple events.

I went to WGI for the first time this year, and I couldn't help but think of how beneficial a 3rd day would be. The first day (for me anyway) is usually just getting the rust off, building confidence, remembering the turns (or learning the turns). By day 2 you are less worried about trashing your car (dad's car) around a corner you don't know well, and you are actually working on getting faster. I was still taking at least 1 second off my lap time each run group all the way through the open track on day 2. A 3rd day would have been a priceless (...almost) learning experience.

Yes, absolutely.

If we were paying 50% more for a weekend date, we'd have to increase event fees accordingly.

Some tracks have weekend rates, some do not.

Our rates for "away" events are based on trying to hit break-even. We just about accomplished that at every away event this year

Whenever financially reasonable, we take weekends. When we cannot get a weekend, we try to get Thurs-Fri or Mon-Tues. This allows us to use

The majority of the board, our officers, and specialty chiefs are all working guys. Many own shops which means that they don't even get paid vacation days! Believe me, many of us are aware of the strain some of our away events put on our vacation time!

That said, great feedback in this thread!! I'm also a supporter of the best-of-N..!

I don't want to continue off topic, but I do have a miata (started with it), got a better job in a bad economy about a year and half ago too. Married 3 years (with her since 1998 though), no plans to change that in the near future. She actually tolerates this hobby very well, I just get 2 weeks off a year and having family up/down the east coast takes up much of it. :D

I went to Calabogie with Troy, it was a 2.25 day sort of event, we got some time Friday night to learn the track, and the open format on the 2 other days really provided alot of track time. If the current organizers can wave magic wands and pull off 3-day events focused near/around weekends at NHMS and/or away events next year I would be much more likely to be in attendance. I really want to get in a few events and shoot for my COM license next year. Car prep and changing jobs, etc. held me back a bit this year.

After reading a bit, I support best of "N".

...and Paul, I don't think it would take you many events to earn your license. You drove brilliantly at Bogie......especially for having a car with 94hp and street rubber. It looks like there will quite a few changes in the ST4 world come next year.

Too much invested in the last 35+ years, I think I'll keep her.

oh yeah, and +1 to a best of N approach, where N=X-1, and where X=number of events for the year. Fred's earlier example shows N=X-2, meaning it would be ok to miss 2 events. I don't know. Perhaps I could be convinced to go with N=X-2. What is being proposed?

Carl,

You have to solve for N. Your equations above are correct, however you forgot to divide by π, then convert to kilopascals.

We have data from the last few years as far as attendence stats. I say we give it a try for a year and see if it increases participation. Sounds like most who voiced opinion are for it.

You make it seem like we're going around in circles and we're full of hot air.

For all you math gurus, is it possible that a person might LOSE a class championship if required to drop an event?

Sure. Lets say you get 9 points at 8 events for a total of 72. Some other guy runs six events but gets 4 11s and 2 13s for 70. You have more points but have to drop an event for a total of 63 and now lose to the guy with 70 because he dropped a 0. But the guy that beat you had many more wins or at least beat you head to head each time, so it would be arguable as to who deserved it.
