I had no idea those rumble strips were so deep and filled with water. You must be right about why it was so slick. Hey COM'ers,
I just wanted to say thanks for a very nice event at the Glen.
I had a great time despite a few electronic / computer car problems which had 0 impact on how much I enjoyed your event.
You guys put on a very well run event. I'll be back many times (as work allows).
Maybe I can someday even persuade Will to open up passing between 8 & 9...
It was great finally meeting some people face to face that I have corresponded with for years.

Nice to see a video of something I witnessed live, too bad I did not have my own video camera, it was a huge spin and we could not see exactly where your car was because of the tire smoke. James did a good job, he picked the middle part of the track and braked hard. Here was another close call I had in turn 5. My car seems to over-steer at the limit, something I definitely need to attend to.

fwiw,
While there is a lot of camber in the outer loop, a "wide" entry line -- i.e., from the far left at turn in coming out of the busstop -- will require you "drive down" the cambered banking toward the apex. This upsets many cars at wot, including my M3. My car will stick inside at or very near WOT, and an entry ~ 1/3 to 1/2 way from the left on entry reduces that camber change by ~50%. This improves high-speed stability for my car, results in an equal arc and equal radius, shortens the turn, and imo the grip is better way inside. Even at WOT I rarely use the exit curbing and I'm not getting a push nor pinching the car in the corner. YMMV. -FF
p.s. the "apex" is at least ~30-50 yards long and ends where the apex cone was sitting.

I had a couple of entries to turn 5. The one I had been taught the last time I was there was to stay about 1/3 of the way away from the left side of the turn in cone or close to mid track. I have been told the fastest way around that turn is to stay out towards the turn in cone and then progressively apex. For me this method seemed to not work very well. I tried rim shotting the inside of the turn a couple of times and it worked well. I am not sure which way was actually faster though?

You sure were fighting a loose car. Were your rear tires cooked or overinflated? If not, I'd take a good look at too much rear toe-out.

In all seriousness. The car does seem to over-steer a lot. I just changed the ride height of it. Raised it up to a good track ride height for optimal handling as opposed to the slammed look I had before. I just had it aligned before this event to what i wanted based on what seems to work well for many people with my setup. I will play around with the suspension a bit more so to try to fix the issue. The car felt great otherwise.

On that note people think there is a wide line and a tight line. Fred is right that there is more camber (banking) in the track lower especially at turn in. In my opinion you have to find the right place to turn in that works for "your" car. Remember the "right line" is ultimately the one that works best for your car. Don't always go wide or tight because "someone said so", go by feel (seat of the pants) and experiment with different lines to find the right one. That is what practice is for!
I had a great event also and was happy to see many familiar faces. I really miss running with COMSCC on a more regular basis.
I hope to see some of you at NH.

That said, in my car, "the wide line" into 5 works best for me. My car pushes just a hair on entry, but a quick lift tucks the front end in perfectly, and lets me get right back to WOT before the apex and all the way out to T6.
Post-event review of the data shows that running wide at entry let me carry more speed and higher G's , 90+MPH @ ~1.4+ G's, versus 85+MPH @ ~1.2 G's. There is no way the few extra yards of distance could make up for such a difference in speed.
I was running in the 2:17's and 2:18's (before I had a tire blister) and caught a lot of cars in T5.
