Chris Has the right solution. i stated from the start that the rules are the rules . you could tell he was in no way trying to sand bag . i was the first person to tell him he was DQ and why . it was like i kicked him in the nuts ! all i was saying is it would be good if the club in some way could tell people that there close to the max DB level of the track .

like im said . when i was thinking about it some more then no maybe we should not be policing DB levels our selfs . but i can't see us as a club looking good in the tracks eyes when a car or cars are going over the noise level . in a situation like the bmw driver . he's new to the club ?? the 3 stripes on the car tells me that . he's not only pissed at the club but the track .yes he should be mad at him self too ! but will he be back to run with comscc ? hes not signed up for nhms 3 (yet) . my self i tryed to police the sound of my own car . i'm close to the max level i even got a street cars muffler for the car just in case i got a black flag . were i tested my car was in the parking lot of my shop .it was not at the track ! i did a 2nd gear drive by at 50 feet from the meter with the car at 13k rpm's . i for one would like to know what the car's DB level was at the track . would other club members with loud cars like to get some for warning if there car might go over the max db level ? or would you rather have the club look bad in the tracks eyes ? piss off members ? piss off the people that live around the tracks ?

If we could get the tracks to post their measurements for members to look at during the event, that would be absolutely fantastic. I suspect that would be hard to get agreement on from the tracks, depending on the logistics of how they do their monitoring and recording.
As a less demanding request, maybe the tracks would be amenable to at least telling us which cars are getting within 2-3 dB of the limit, so those drivers could take action proactively if they want.
I would also be in favor of the club having a meter and doing spot checks with it, especially at the request of drivers. This would have to be for informational purposes, not enforcement, but it could really help make it a less blind activity for drivers trying to find the right amount of muffling. We need to know which weighting they are monitoring - though it is very likely to be DBA. These meters are less than $100.
We also have to keep in mind that sound measurements are notoriously unreliable, and un-repeatable. Aside from variation among instruments, there are huge influence from things like buildings and trees, and probably weather as someone else mentioned. This means that every driver should try to be conservative in their sound setup when coming to one of the more sensitive tracks.

How do the corner workers / control at Tremblant know which car triggered the Db issue? I presume an alarm is triggered by the sensor and they then get a call from the cops? All of which is post fact so they have to figure it out after the fact or during?
Certainly air pressure and humidity issues could have made the difference betweek OK and too loud too.

I presume this equipment is available and could be setup to automatically inform control of cars that are trigger the preset limit, hence causing a black flag to be issued for a warning. At a minimum we could give a corner worker the meter and have them advise control of cars that reach a preset limit. The offending vehicle / driver may then choose how to address the issue on that day (back out of the throttle, bolt on something to help, retire for the day etc), and for future events wholesale change of mufflers etc.

I've bought an ultra-cheap meter, and at the next event I'll experiment with it to see what we can learn. We can then talk about what to do next.

This is research, not enforcement. Enforcement would require a lot more investment and a commitment of a lot more time, ongoing into the future. Best to leave that to the tracks, who are already invested.

yes i know that !and as far as i know nhms does not realy care to much about sound levels . but it is splitting hairs on what its called if we do some thing with DB level testing no ? any way i'm curious to see just what readings from your meter to the one i have will be .
