Fender roller for Monticello

Post by jimmacsrx7 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 6:57 am

Hi, anyone have a fender roller that they can bring to Monticello? I have some new to me wider race tires and they look pretty damn close. Thanks.

A baseball bat works well. Seriously. The varying diameters are handy.

or a broom handle, depending on how much clearance you have.
If you are not big on aesthetics, vise grips work.

I used a roller on my front fenders this weekend and it took all of one minute per side. I got into a guy (well, he got into me :D ) a few weeks ago at the end of a national race, had a fender slightly pushed in and ruined the tire between turns 9 and pit-in at NHMS.

If you have paint that you care about you may want to use a heat gun or hair drier to soften the paint as you roll so it doesn't chip.

3 lb hammer rolled/flared my fenders fine :) - Paint looks like hell, but whatever, Race Cars don't have to be pretty.... right? :)

It took a good 3 hours to do the fender rolling on the WRX. Finally fit a 275-40-17 all around, but had to roll/pull the fender a good 1 to 1.5 inches out back.

I used a real fender roller ( don't remember the brand), and the paint chipped, so I just masked it off and painted it with some grill paint. I would highly recommend the actual tool.

Works well!

Oooooops! Gary "pulling out the fenders 1 to 1.5 inches" bumps your car into class PB. The problem is, PB requires a roll bar and 5 point or better restraint system.

PB is definitely my new home! Just look under the hood!

Rollbar... check

6 point harness ... check

crappy driver at the wheel ... check

What can possibly go wrong!
