Re: What COM folks are building...
Unfortunately we wont see any of them at COM, 2 are from too far away, and the TTV8 coupe although it is local isn't caged so cant play Its owner has a rather nice URQ that is getting a 700WHP 5cyl 20V though, and that might just get a cage
The good news is I will be bringing my car to play in PA, heres an update from todays efforts.
Cage is getting closer to being done
Time for another roll cage update.
Today I did a bunch of cleanup, added in the 2 sill bars and a load of other tubes.
Sill bars in
Next up was the addition of the diagonal in the rear down tubes, and the rear strut tie bar.
This is how all the tubes in a cage should come together above the drivers head
The tube to tube joints are all TIG welded as the cage is 4130, I have been trying to get used to my torch hand controller as using the foot control is a PITA for this stuff. The welds came out OK, could be better but they will certainly do. This shot is right before I added the main hoop diagonal.
Mai hoop diagonal interface to the spider is a bit complex, I used the fancy pin gauges to get this right.
Here is the spider with the 7th tube added.
And the bottom of the main hoop diagonal
This is really the bulk of the main cage done. There is still plenty to do on it including adding the harness bar, a couple more rear supports and a bunch of gussets oh and of course the door bars.
Last job of the day was to prep for an initial weight measurement tomorrow, I have arranged to borrow some race scales so this should be interesting.
To be honest I dont know what to expect the weight to be, or the distribution. I could guess but I am bound to be wrong so I wont publish my guestimate here.
Stock list weight was supposedly 2850lbs. I am guessing stock distribution was something like 60F/40R? (57/43 maybe?) Anyone have measured numbers for a fully complete, stock 4K?

A shop owner and I have decided to build a USRC M1-spec rally car from a '68 Porsche 911 and a RS 2.7L motor. Photos will be attached as they become available:

Re: What COM folks are building...
Have been building this for quite some time now
1982 930 salvage (insurance job)
Car had broken head studs and was stripped of all body panels/doors
Perfect SPA donor car
Now car wears some fiberglass, has a full cage, suspension stuff, and should make some powpow
Hoping for sub 2500 lbs and should make 400+ rwhp at low boost
Hope to complete this car before I am 90 years old
Will try to post pic

Re: What COM folks are building...
A quick update.....
Cage is about done, except for doorbars, and they go in at the very last moment as working in the car with them in place sucks. Cage gussets are all in, Driveshaft is in, seats are in etc
Exhaust mounted and working on downpipes. I hope to have the exhaust finished this coming weekend, except for the tailpipes but thats just fru-fru.
Next up is fuel system setup and coolant lines, and a few other minor things like lugs to support front bodywork frame, then it can get painted and final assembly can begin.

You had time to carve your initials into the rollcage's gussets? Man, no wonder you're not done yet!timmmy wrote:A quick update.....
