Air Filter in SS

Post by W0lfK1n » Sat Nov 29, 2003 10:34 am

I have a clarification question about the Air Filer requirements in Showroom Stock.

In the Rules under Showroom Stock/Running Gear/Engine and Drive Train #5 it says:

Any make oil, air, and/or fuel filter elements are allowed.

My question is that does this only apply to DropIn replacements? or can you attach a K&N Cone Air Filter? I do understand that this is legal only if there are no other changes: for example - removing/changing the stock Air box, intake pipe, etc. The reason I ask is because I can (and have) attach a Cone to the end of my intake pipe without any changes to the Stock Configuration.

Thanks All:
I assume that you had to disconnect the pipe from the stock air box
to attach the cone. So, that would not be legal. The overriding
qualification is this first sentence from the 4th paragraph under IX.:

"The competitor may be required to provide a factory shop manual
of the competing vehicle's model and year to aid the Event Stewards
in determining what is the "as delivered" configuration."

So, if the "as delivered" configuration must be changed (i.e. disconnecting
the intake pipe from the air box) to fit the cone filter, then it's not legal.

Great question, though! :-)
