Application of Numbers

This will be my first year. I have a fiberglass car with nice new paint, 2 years old and I don't want to damage it.

I don't have enough window space to put numbers there, I'll need to affix them to the bodywork.

I'd like to hear some discussion on ways that are being used to affix numbers to the sides of fiberglass cars. What works, what doesn't, what is easy to apply/remove, what looks good, what is safe for the paint, and anything else worth mention.

Vynil letters and numbers are a good choice.
I have mine and I pasted them of a piece of acrylic cut to the shape fo the rear window and is wedged between the body and the rear side glass. This way i will not have to spend $$$ having to put new letters and numbers for each event.

Good Idea. I don't have much room. For reference, the window is about 1 foot square.
Perhaps if I bend the acrylic. I'll keep it in mind.

Paul, if your rear window is glass, it looks like your TVR has enough room for stick on numbers.Stick them on the outside of a clean waxed window and they peal off easy.

You can cut your own out of Contac paper and put them on the door. Remove easily. Also Vinyl vendors have letters with easy peel-off adhesive.

A safe (for your finish) and secure application would be to use vinyl letters/numbers. The day before an event spray the designated body panel with a mixture of dish soap and water. Apply the vinyl, then with a squeegy, squeeze the mixture out and blot whatever is left with a paper towel. You'll be good to go the next day and the vinly will come off easily whenever you want.

We use 2 different types of vinyl for vehicles. The first one is pretty much what you're all used to - the 3M/Avery/Oracal 2-mil solid color vinyl. THis adhesive is pretty aggressive because it's designed for 5 to 7 year use on a vehicle.

Then, we've got 2 types of "temporary" vinyl we use. Both 3M and Avery make a vinyl that has a waffle back adhesive. We use this for full wraps on vehicles. It's designed to apply and peel very easily.

Price is the same for either at most good sign shops.

Advice is very good - we use "Mr. Bubbles" bath soap for children as an application aid, and it allows very easy stripping. Smells nice too.....
