Point By rules

Alex: If you wanted open track you should have gone to Mosport
I could see passing anywhere on the track with a point by.

while i do agree NHMS was cramped for space, im not sure open passing is the best thing.
thinking about the window net and arm restraints hindering the point by maybe a turn signal (for those that have them) could be used. it would direct which side to pass on and be way more visable than a finger out of a net. if the turn signal is used and someone forgets to shut it off and gets passed unexpectedly, i doubt they will make that mistake again.

Not require window nets in Prepared
I just submitted a rules change to strike the mandatory window net usage in Prepared classes. I have a window net and it does make it difficult to put the hand out the window. Also, with the closeness in the level of performance with some cars in other classes, the safety level is negligible.

Jonathan, I agree with you.
Bruce, I couldn't find what Raj found today but I was assuming that the "rule" was possibly not in the rulebook but established at the driver's meeting. I assume that you have been operating on your assumption without issue. The rule, as I read it doesn't make a point by a requirement, however I was raised by lawyers so forgive me.
It states that a point by will indicate which side the front car prefer the pass on but not that it's needed to initiate a pass.

Dude,

Page 9 - (VII. Driver Requirements, Section H)
Or just search for "passing"
Getting rid of the window net and allowing open passing would make a happy Alex?

The implementation of suggestions I made in post 1 would make me happy. You are oversimplifying.
I've read the rulebook yet again and the passing "without a pointby" has a stipulation on it which stated something to the effect of being unsafe.. if the pass was made safely that seems to be outside of the rules as they currently read.

As per Bruces last post I think we need to make this rule VERY clear
If people think they are in a run group using point-byes this needs to be enforced. While using PBs is no excuse for not watching your mirrors it changes the game a bit
Example- A friend who is an instructor w/COM is waiting for a PB coming onto the pit straight at Lime Rock, is given a PB, goes to pull out and pass only to find another car in that space. Not good
Waiting for PBs can be frustrating (trust me on this one) and I would be open to a non PB run group I just think everyone needs to be on the same page.
Also I have found when passing flags are not being thrown using the horn is more effective than blinking headlights (Thanks Nate)

Seeing Carl ALWAYS says this is a point-by club, that is what we'll do.
I agree the window net is a PIA. I typically do not use it in run sessions, just in the time trial if the class requires it. Then again, no point-by's needed in a time trial.
