Car Classification Questions
Hi all, I'm a new COMSCCer and I have a couple of questions.<br>

I will be attending the September NHIS event. I will only be there for the Driver Training day (finances prohibit competition at this time). I believe that my car falls into the SSB category, but I'd like to be sure.<br>

I have a 1998 Integra RS, modified thusly:<br>
<br>
Intake<br>
205/50-15 wheel and tire combo (stock is 195/60-14, and I believe 195/55-15s were optional)<br>
3-pt. shock tower brace<br>
Short Shifter w/bushings<br>
<br>
I don't think most of these mods would bump into another class; the only questionable ones being wheels and tires.<br>

The expert on car classification would be Brad Pelletier. Brad is the Chief Steward and Rules Chair.<br>

My opinion would be that your car would be moved from Showroom Stock to Street Stock due to the body stiffeners and the after market shifter.<br>
<br>
The only changes allowed to your car are the specific modifications spelled out in the rules for each classification. Generally if it isn't listed as allowable - you can't do it.<br>
<br>
Since you don't plan to Time Trial I doubt if anyone would complain about your car classification.<br>

Showroom stock classes are just that - showroom stock. Your wheel and tire upgrade alone bumps you to Street Stock (not to mention the other goodies). Sorry for the bad news.<br>

Oh, I see. Well, I don't consider Street Stock to be a bad thing, I just wanted to be sure of my classification.

OK, one more question: are stock lap and shoulder belts admissible in Street Stock? The rules state that "Y-type" shoulder restraints are OK for Showroom. It doesn't say that four or five point harnesses are <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>required</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> in Street, just recommended. I just want to be sure, thanks again....

The way I interpret the rule is that stock belts are permissible in Showroom and Street Stock. If you add an after market shoulder belt in Street Stock it cannot be a "Y" type.<br>

I just reveiwed the rules and note two confusing issues.<br>
The first is in regards to the types of restraints. To paraphrase the rules:<br>
<br>
A 5 point harness is required in Prepared and SP. A 5 point is STRONGLY suggested for SS and ST. A "Y" type shoulder harness is allowed is SS. No mention is made of a mandatory requirement for ST for either type.<br>
<br>
The second issue involves tires. Now I will post this and either duck or run like hell.<br>
<br>
The SS rules state the tires must be of "as delivered" construction and DOT legal.<br>
<br>
ST and SP rules simply state that the tires must be DOT legal.<br>
<br>
There is no mention of a tire requirement in Prepared meaning it is open to real race tires. But is it also open to recaps with the cord showing? <br>
<br>
The "as delivered construction" phrase is only included in the SS class. The could be interpreted as meaning SS must run street tires as delivered.<br>
<br>
Think I will now go out a polish my Kumho's with a little WD40 to increase the shine while the arrows fly.<br>

Tires
To add to what Herb said, I have a set of DOT Hoosier bias ply tires, and though I haven't run them yet, I'll probably do so at some point just to see what they're like. THe only advantage I can see is thet they are very light, even lighter than the Hoosier radials.<br>
