stock belts vs. harness

Post by betelgeuse » Sun Jun 08, 2008 1:50 pm

I'm installing new seats in my st3 car. I haven't seen anything in the rules about the use of a 4 point harness. Are they legal in st3, or would you prefer the use of the stock belts?

Thanks in advance
Greg

Ugrade of safety equipment is always legal in all clasees and belts especially are encouraged. I would recommend goint to 5 point if you plan four point. Of course that only works if you have a seat through which you can pass the belt and if you put a proper anchor on the floor for the crotch belt.

Remember that after-market belts will have to be replaced according to their expiration dates. If you get FIA belts like Schroth they are good for 5 years. Others, only 2 years.

Race belts will hold you in place in your seat and allow you to drive much better than bracing your left foot on the dashboard between shifts.

Schroth are the belts I was thinking about getting. I'm way over my budget already so they may have to wait. Thanks for the quick response.

i got some used, excellent condition Schroth Profi II asm. Cheap!!! Typical Fcar 'hole keeps delaying and saying this and that.

The Schroth's are DOT legal, too, so you can keep them in the car 100% of the time. OM me. Have 5-way passenger AND driver PLUS extra set of shoulder straps for HANS.

Betelgeuse us a star in Orion ( upper left ). I use that name because I figured no one else would in a car forum.
I even named my cat Betelgeuse. If you see that name in a bmw or ferrari forum, its me.
Greg

BTW I live in NH, but in the winters I wish I lived in Fl.
