Have a Great time! I went in 93. Watching the Toyotas and Jags (if I remember thru the drunken haze) battle it out at 2am from up in the stands........seeing the rotors glow red in the night.....the infield is, well WILD :whip: .....Waking up and still hearing the cars......its amazing how quite it gets after the end of a 24hr race.

Hey, I'm going too!!!

I was at Daytona for the 1st time 2 years ago for a 6hr GrandAm race which was part of a big HSR weekend. Man, those GTP cars were really amazing, but there's something about the racing under the stars that was really magical

Should be fun this time and if I manage to stay up till midnite, watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show on the big screen should be a real time warp (sorry...I couldn't resist!)

Daytona 24

I will probably be there for the Grand-Am Cup race, but don't know if I'll be there for the 24 or not. It's definitely an interresting experience. I would highly reccommend wandering throught he garage area at about 3:00 AM to see what goes into an event like this.

Also, don't expect it to be warm. IIRC, in 2001 when I was there it was in the upper 20's during the night.

Kevin,

Do not forget Moroso 2000 (our first Longest Night), as it was warmer in New England than Palm Beach FLA. As I remember it was about 20 degrees in Florida and the mid 40's in NE and we did not bring the appropriate clothes..

Chris A.

PS. Make sure to watch the end of the biggest braking zone. Lots of red hot rotors and mad passes, especially as the night goes on.

Cold

Post by kfoote » Thu Dec 15, 2005 6:49 pm

Yes, it was cold at Moroso, but I don't particularly remember being cold there.

Unfortunately at Daytona, there's no real good vantage point of the 2 longest braking zones, going into turn 1 into the infield and going into the chicaine at the end of the back straight. You do get the same effect entering the first hairpin in the infield, though, as there are some interesting passes that take place there, and the braking zone is long enough to make the rotors glow. There are also a lot of spins there during the night as a result of new drivers coming out of the pits too hot on cold tires.

my GRM ticket pkg also includes Grandstand seating...so I can surely view corner 1 for awhile...

Not sure if I'll arrive in time for the 2:15PM start of the GrandAm Cup race on Friday (only arriving Orlando @ noon), but I'll pop by at some point to say 'hi'...

The track is right next to the airport and in downtown Daytona, not out in the sticks. the town of Daytona loves the track. What a concept!!
