The semi-cool thing that's happening by the end of 2008 is that in MA. there will be no more dyno-testing for smog tests. If you are driving a pre-1996 vehicle, it will not go on the rollers anymore- it's one reason we've resisted getting a MA. state inspection license so far. After the change, if your check engine light is off, or non-existent as the case my be on that engine swapped project car, you pass emissions.
I'm sure the powers that be will find some way to screw this up too.
i've tried surfing the net to find this info. Do you have any link. Is this a rumor or something definite?

I won't bet my house on it, because it is the MA. state government making the decision- but we've been told it is a done deal by a couple of inspection stations that we deal with. We have also been told this by an auctioneer. We have been keeping our eyes on the auctions and other sources for inspection station licenses- which are selling for the low low price of $80k for the license and used equipment. It makes no sense to make the investment now, because the equipment is going to be obsolete soon.

That's what I am seeing / afraid of with my Factory Five. 89 mustang drive train, but titled as a 2003. No OBD2 port even though the guys at the inspection station assure me that "it's under the dash somewhere, I'll find it". I don't know what new way to screw me they are looking into!

If it is an '89 wiring harness, you will not find an ALDL (obd2 plug)
Those were EECIV systems with simple self test plugs. Not OBD2 compatible.

That's like me buying an ICBM from shady COM Irish terrorists and complaining that MA won't let me keep it.

Raj, I had no idea what you were talking about until I googled ICBM.

InterContinental Ballistic Missile. Yeah, we have a few of those. We just call them something else.

Have you brought it in for its first inspection? The inspector can put in any info he wants as far as car description on the very first MA test. That includes year/make/model etc.

...or you could view ICBM as Irish Car BoMb (Guinness & a shot of Jamieson) - almost as destructive as the ICBM you pictured!
