The Miata sounds like a killer ST2 car!

I intended the Miata to be my track car/play car till I got the Atom. The gearing in the Miata is off for autocross work (2nd is too low and third is too high) It's a 6 speed.

I ended up using the Focus at (svtoa style) autocross events and got carried away modding it (to catch my class leaders...)
It actually is a fun all around car and trouble free, considering it is an "economy" car.
I got 42mpg driving it down and back to Summit Point last year in track ready trim, including the Azenis! Amazing little car.

I probably will reconsider my choice for backup cars as the Miata handles a lot more like the Atom than the Focus.

...and it's better looking.

SPB. Take my word for it. Say hello to STI's and Evos.

The Focus, not the Miata which is an SSA car with no mods.

Maybe some day Frank. I am saving my pennies for a new trailer, with some extras such as AC, Gen, Bunk beds, etc. I also want to put some more cash into the 200sx. As Mickey says, a fresh motor would be a big step forward.
Anyway, I will enjoy watching you run in SPB! I to have something to run with minimum up keep, as new COM position will keep me busy during track days.

Sam is correct. Anytime a turbo or supercharger is added, the car automatically goes to SP. The old wording about "moving up one class" is history and even in its day, was misleading.

It would be great if we could come up with a rule set that allowed turbo/super/flywheel/body kit changes in a class that did not require rollcages, firesuits, etc.

Does a 4 point rollbar satisfy the requirements for SPB?I'll have to read some more.

Can I use the factory belts?

I would like to use the Focus on occasion as it is a safe, reliable and fun car.

I may go ahead and make it SPB ready. I wouldn't have to change classes at the last minute either.(Atom vs. Focus)

Some day the Focus may have the HP to hang with the Scoobies and Evos

Thanks for all the help!!

Yes on the 4 pt bar- no on the factory belts (5 point required).

5 point.Damn! I'm sure I'll have to swap out the seats too...It gets to be more and more of a track car.

What if I didn't tell anyone it was supercharged?

I was thinking of a pair of inexpensive Summit buckets/covers and be done with it. Schroth makes an inexpensive Clubman 5 point harness that should work.Might even save enough weight swapping out the seats to make up for the 4 point rollbar.

Will arm restraints be necessary in SPB? (no window nets)

Nope, no arm restraints or window net needed. Unless you cut the roof off.

Thanks!Glad to hear.

Technically, everything from the windshield header and drivers seat back is nothing but a tail on a fwd car.

I have often though of cutting the car and fabbing a tubular frame to carry the rear suspension and fuel tank on my Focus.

Wonder what class that would put me in...
