Just the inside track for you guys
I'm running a C5Z06 with NASA TT, I opted to run 275/40 17s square due to the fact the Kook was paying $$$ for nationals and kook bucks for regional events.
I first bought a set of the 214 C50's, the first event I ran about 1.5 seconds faster at mid ohio than the last month. But still slower than a fellow TTAer(Z06 as well) that was running a fresh set of 305/30 18s Kuhmo 710s He set a new track record that day at a 1:35.2xx(beating the old record of 1:35.7xx) but it didn't count because he spun. Keep in mind it was only my second time at this track so I was still learning.
Come Nationals I bought a set of the 214 C70 (softer compound), on my second hot lap I ran a 1:34.5xx shattering the track record and at that point the closest person was running in the 1:36s, I took of the C70s and ran the C50s for the rest of the day and the next day, I was about 1.5 seconds slower on the C50s I think I got down to a 1:35.2.
Everyone was on fresh tires, Jesse the current track record holder and the "guy to beat" was on fresh A6s 295s square, Dave started on 710s but bought a new set of A6's (305s square)for the last day.
Dave and Jesse both got down to a 1:35.1xxx, feeling the pressure I bolted on the C70s for the last 2 sessions of the last day and ran a 1:33.8xx. 1st-4th were all C5 Z06s and I had the highest Power to weight ratio, I came in at 9.25 to 1, Jesse and Dave were very close to the 8.7 to 1, my car weighted in 150# heaver than Jesse's and dynoed only 2 HP more.
Conclusion you can go faster on a Kook with less tire & less car than a A6 or a 710.
Also my TTA record setting lap was faster than any of the PTA cars and I would have finished 2nd in TTS and third in TTU. I was the only one on the Kooks in the higher level classes. They all thought I was crazy running the Kook and downsizing my tire size. as Ricky Bobby would say": Who's' retarded now?"
