New Helmet. I drive an open cockpit car and the helmet lifted more than I like. Would be fine in a closed cockpit car. Had it on my head for 5 laps. I paid $300, have seen it as cheap as $269. Sell for $200. Grab yourself a bargain. Thanks

1999 Miata Track Day or Race car
I have a 99 that I just caged. I installed a 16" Ultrashield RR seat, quick release Longacre steering wheel, window net, ARP wheel studs, new Brembo rotors and Hawk DTC60 pads all around, Koni Sports with adjustable spring collars w/2.25" Eibach springs, Eibach SM swaybars w/rod end links,...

Re: Fire System
Well I will chime in here on my experience with a Pull cable system. A pull cable system relies on a spring to drive the plunger thru a diaphram. I had a "Fire Bottle " system a number of years back that did not work when needed. It was brand new, just installed. Oil line let go and the ca...

Re: Sharing a Car
Well, any tire over driven can be overheated, especially in a heavy car. If not driven to the limit, no problem. The other thing to consider whenever sharing a car is how good is your friendship. I've seen many friendships turn sour over a damaged car. When I use to share a car doing enduros, I woul...

Re: Sound at Palmer
Sound is a funny thing. I ran at Mid-O, Watkins Glen, NJMP and Pittsburg Int this year and was never over 97dB. At Palmer Fred said I was way over the limit. When Pittsburg/Beaverrun first opened, sound was a big problem. Lots of people complained. Same thing happened at NJMP in its first few years ...

Re: Wanted: fiberglass work
My ideas are not mine on splitter material. They are gleaned from IMSA teams that I have talked to. I thought it odd that they had such thick splitters. So I asked why they built them that way. I was told it was more important to have a splitter that survived an impact than to have that last 10 % of...

Re: Wanted: fiberglass work
I would suggest using 1/2" marine plywood with just a coating of polyester resin and paint. The one on my GT3 Miata has survived some serious abuse on curbing and is still in great shape. The Poly resin helps it slide nicely on pavement. Also a router to the leading edge to round it helps remov...
