SOLD Hosker's car 232 for sale - info added below

For #232 Car for Sale Ad:

For sale here is much more than just a car, so we wanted to explain before posting the specific vehicle details. This is a 1-owner vehicle purchased new in Massachusetts back in 1990 by our dear friend Stephen Hosker.

Steve passed about a year ago and we all miss him dearly. This car has been a street cruiser, a cross country road trip car after going on unemployment, an autox vehicle, a dual-purpose street/track car, vehicle for kids to climb in/out of, and eventually it’s last iteration as a dedicated HPDE/TT vehicle. The car is in incredible shape and has never been crashed. The most special thing about this car is that is a constant reminder to us of his great competition, laughs on and off the track, stories of his ownership of the car over the years, and most of all his incredible friendship & smile.

The family is now ready to sell it. The car is in great shape, for a 29 year old car. Steve drove the heck out of it, but never thru winters, and kept very good care of it. It's been off the road a couple years now due to Steve's illness, so I would expect to do fluids and other basic maintainence on it but it is ready to run as is. Being 29 years old, it's legal for some vintage racing organizations as well as COM, so you'd have plenty of places to run it

I have a list of the work done to it, and the upkeep done. It's got a cage, seat, harnesses, racing suspension and brakes etc - legal in T30. The asking price is $ 8,000.00 and there will be some spares with it.

If you have interest in aquiring the car, please PM me, Scott Rosnick or Jeff Wasilko and we can set up a viewing and get more details on the car to you. We and the family would really like to see the car stay in the COM family, so we're spreading the word here only at this time. If you or a freind are looking for a well sorted Miata, here's your chance

Here’s some more details on the car:

Race car is a 1990 Mazda Miata. 1-owner car purchased new on 3/31/1990. Car has never been driven during the winter.

Was converted from a street car to a full-fledged track-only car in 2004. (He did some autocross with it for a few years prior to the conversion). According to Stephen’s notes, engine has approximately 150,000 miles…with over 10,000 of those being track miles.

The car has been running with COM Sports Car Club since 2000 with many top 3 finishes and Class Champion in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Engine was out for refurbishment in the winter of 2013; oil pan and rear seals were replaced. Everything else In the engine was checked out and found to be in good shape, so it was put back together as it was.

Transmission has been replaced in the past 5 years as the original developed some crunchiness, I think this was a low miles Expoline purchase.

Additional modifications:
Spec Miata suspension ( Bilstein based)
Full roll cage ( Autopower boot-in type)
Factory hard top
Fuel cell
Lightweight race seats with 6-point harnesses
Lap timer
Jackson Racing cold air intake
Borla exhaust
Tow hooks
Toyo tires with Koisei aluminum wheels (4 complete sets of wheels and tires, in addition to the stock wheels and tires used for transport)
Upgraded racing brake pads, rotors, clutch, and brake lines
Wide aluminum plate installed on brake pedal for easier heel-toe action

Stereo, soft top, interior panels/trim/carpet, spare tire, factory seats, and A/C were removed as part of the conversion from street to track car

There are likely other modifications that would be typical to a car like this - Steve wasn’t so strong of a note taker

Everything is sold “as-is” with no warranties of any kind. The trailer has been sold, and the car has not been driven I almost 2 years so expect to trailer it home and go through it a bit. However, you can expect it was well cared for and loved by the previous owner, so I would, not expect a lot of surprises. Fresh fluids and rubber should get you on the track.

Steve told his sister the car was not street drivable; this might be because the cat was removed only, or maybe the air bag. We’ve got a few “race cars” in the club with similar modifications that remain street drive able, so this should not be a tough thing to figure out if you’re looking for a dual duty car.

As stated above the family would like to have the car stay in the club, so there is some flexibility in the price for COM family members.

The car is still available

I've had a chat with Steve's sister, explained to her that as the car has not been used in 2.5 years, and the bolt-in cage is not allowed in some circles ( it is fine in COM), the car needs to be seen more as a project than a ready to run car, and the price is being changed to reflect that.

I think if you wanted to remove the cage, with a little love it could be a great fun street car again, almost 29 years old, little to no rust or body damage .

New price is $ 4,000 with out the spare 3 sets of Kosei K-1 wheels; $ 5,000 with.

PM me if interested

Car was picked up by the new owner today. You may see it at Palmer, it’s joining the rental/student fleet there. I think Steve would be pleased that new drivers will be built using his car.
