Forum upgrade

Post by Mick » Fri Apr 08, 2016 1:41 am

The forum software has been upgraded. Lots has changed but a couple of things to note:
- The new theme is much more mobile friendly. (welcome to 2016)
- When embedding videos you now just have to place the URL of the video or the video page directly into a post and the forum software will magically figure out what it is and embed it properly.

For instance this direct link to a gifv works

Code: Select all

http://i.imgur.com/R0dxnh9.gifv

..as well as this link to a youtube page

Code: Select all

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PZ5J3GLSYI

One unfortunate side effect of this upgrade is that some of the older attached images have been lost. So you may find that images attached to older posts have gone missing.

Let me know if you experience any issues.

The "view new posts" button is missing. Collateral damage?

It's still available, just hidden in the "Quick Links" menu in the upper left. That link above the forum list was handy though. I'll see if I can put it back.

I stopped using that link when I discovered I could bookmark the new post search query. Now when I visit the forum I only see what's new. To do that: right click your bookmark, choose edit, and change the URL to this

Code: Select all

http://www.comscc.org/forums/search.php?search_id=unreadposts

That's going to work..however, that new address bookmarks unread posts, not new posts. I changed the "unread" to "new" and that is working..:) Thanks Mick!

I saw that guy with the cane a half hr ago driving down rt.20 the wrong way... Pretty cool Pikes Peak video...when it was dirt..wow...

Hi Mick

Thanks for all you do on the website. I'm showing as subscribed to all posts on the Classifieds, but I think I'm not getting email notifications. Not sure if it's related to the update. Is there a way to test besides creating a "test" ad?

Thanks

Hmmm, I am getting email notifications for other things, so I know the emails are working.
Did you try unsubscribing and re-subscribing?

Thanks Mick

Just did that, I'll watch for a few days and see if the notifications start showing up in back in my e-mail.
