Recomendations for a light Miata flywheel

Looking for options on a track only clutch and lightweight flywheel set-up. I looked over at Miata.net and all I got was a headache.

I know what you mean about headaches with the Miata net site .

what type of info are you looking for ?

have been waiting for the original clutch to crap out in my Miata with 149K miles on it for a year now .
I was at a swap meet last year and came across some one selling a new in the box light weight racing beat FW for a 1.6L I bought it for 280. dollars .
I also got the stage 2 clutch from the guy also for 200 dollars .
at some point the OE clutch will crap out on me ? I though it would have been this season as I was going to the track once a week with the car .
the quality looks good for the parts in the box but that tells me nothing until its in the car .
one of my HPDE students had the same clutch setup in her car 1.6L and I liked it .

I would look at the ACT Prolite flywheel. Billet CrMo machined to 9.3lbs. Being steel it is also legal for SCCA.

I have used a Fidanza aluminum on a few cars and never had a big problem, similar weight and cost I think. Only issue with them is the pilot bearing bore sometimes loosens up.

The Mazda Motorsports clutch that is 30% stiffer is a good deal and works great, feels just like stock, but not any lighter. Also used one of these on a few cars, no issues.

I had a Fidanza in my NA. It's nice they have a replaceable insert, and I've used them in other cars with success. I used a standard Exedy replacement clutch and broke it in correctly. I didn't like how if you really hammered a shift it would slip, hydraulics were not the issue. Even for stock power it's probably worth getting something with more clamping force.

Ditto. I use it with an ACT sprung 3 puck disk.

The super lightweight AL setups won't idle at a steady RPM.

The light weight set ups do eliminate some damping effect, which shows how out of balance your engine is, unless of course you have it balanced.

IMO, the nicest combo I've run for weight, strength and damping is a Fidanza 11lb aluminum 1.6 flywheel on the 1.8 engine + Spec aluminum frame housing (5lbs) with Spec 5-puck sprung 1.6 clutch (2.2lbs).

I added a new balancer about half way through the season to smooth out some of the harmonics that showed up at about 2200rpm/3900rpm/5300rpm/7500rpm.

A cyclic, stepped vibration is nearly always a balance issue. New balancer solved 90 % of it.

Don't really know if it was worth the accumulated points.
