September Competition Update - 2 Events Remaining
COMSCC returns to New England for its final 2 events of the year - Thompson on September 29/30 and NHMS-South Oval on October 11/12. If you are in the hunt, plan on attending both events - you're probably going to need it - registration just closed for Thompson (you may request late entry, just make sure to thank Peter Fontana and Mark "Smiley" Swinehart if you get in). NHMS-3 is fully open. Sign-up now on the COMSCC Registration Site: http://comscc.carclubreg.com/comscc/Default.aspx
The club held a fantastic event at Watkins Glen International on September 9th and 10th; here are the highlights:
- New FTE (fastest time ever) for COMSCC was set by Kurt Hissong in a car that slightly resembles a Mustang (SU) - 1:56 (no one has ever gone sub 2:00 in a COMSCC TT, not even in an open wheeler)
- Marc and Mike Fuchswanz (SA) both ran 2:04's, with Marc taking 1st place by 1/2s
- Glenn Schattman was not far behind, winning Super B with a 2:05 in his 911
- Will Martins was out in front of the Frankenspec and Nick Leung's Tegi in Super C
- John Spain once again stole/borrowed a car, but it wasn't quite enough to catch Greg Hosselbarth in Super D
- We hope to see more of T100 newcomers John Leaton (1st) and Justin Webster (2nd)
- Laura Fleming crushed her goals with a 2:07, but it wasn't enough to catch Donald Piette in T90
- With Nick Derosa sidelined due to drivetrain issues, Ivan Barra had a nice drive in T80, winning his 2nd ever COMSCC TT
- Again in T70, a BMW parked it early while DJ McArdle won the class
- Ryan Catucci (Most Consistent) made an appearance in a 135i automatic on run-flats; he just edged out Roe Cole by less than 1/2s to win T60
- T50, Chad Fox, http://comscc.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... 841#p39191, enough said
- Derek Tangard worked hard in T40, taking the victory and the track record
- Finally in T30, Stephen Hosker took his 2nd straight win
With Watkins Glen in the books, the season standings have been shaken up a bit.
Super Unlimited
Dan Darcy is the only SU entrant with multiple starts this season - we need more 800hp "Mustangs" and formula cars to play in this class
Super A
After a podium finish at WGI, Charles "Butch" King carries an 18 point lead into the final 2 events
Super B
Cassie Johnston may very well steal the show in Super B unless Marc Fuchswanz runs the downtuned Vette in SB for the final 2 events
Super C
Will Martins is beginning to run away with the class as mechanical troubles slow down his competition; Nick Leung competed in both away events, and could
end up battling with Gordon Andrade for 2nd
Super D
If John Spain can steal just 2 more vehicles in 2014, he can probably hang onto his 11 point lead over Greg Hosselbarth
T100
Bob Cairns is the class winner, whether it's official or not is the question - T100 needs at least 4 total competitors between TMSP-2 and NHMS-4
T90
The sandbagger has a 15-point lead going into TMSP-2; overall, a great season for Laura Fleming
T80
Mick Demopolous and Nick Derosa are still tied after WGI, but T80 is wide open
T70
Despite engine issues at WGI, Nick Fontana leads T70; however, only 6 points separate 5 competitors for 2nd place (DJ McArdle, Stephen Tise Jr., Lou Milinazzo, Albert Yin, and Peter Rokel)
T60
Howard Roundy is still your T60 leader even after missing WGI, but Sarah Fuchswanz, Roe Cole, and Sam Webster are vying for 2nd
T50
Chad Fox took a commanding victory at WGI, but with Jeff Wasilko only 6 points behind, anything can happen with 2 twisty tracks to finish the season. 2012-2013 Driver Champion David Wittmer is solidly in 3rd place. We haven't mentioned David Lemoine or Troy Velazquez yet, which means an amazing driver will finish in 5th place...
T40
After a great win at WGI, Derek Tangard has tied Scott Rosnick going into the final 2 events - what else could you want for a late season showdown? Shooting for 3rd place, Julie Wasilko is right on Mark Swinehart's heels.
T30
After a back-and-forth early season battle, Stephen Hosker has emerged from the away events with a 25 point lead, but 4 drivers (Barry Gammon, John Riopel, Micah Spielvogel, and Peter Perrault) are in the hunt for 2nd.
On to Driver Champion. There was a lot of action at WGI in terms of Driver Champion standings. Howard Roundy and Nick Fontana needed wins and some help from other drivers to stay in the hunt so the "list" is now down to 5:
Chad Fox - 72.33
Bob Cairns - 68.00
Laura Fleming - 67.33
Jeff Wasilko - 66.33
Stephen Hosker - 63.17
Needless to say, there are a lot of close battles for podium positions, Class Championships, and Driver Champion. Forget the foliage, TSMP-2 and NHMS-4 are shaping up to be 2 must-see events whether you're "in it" or not. Sign-up now.
