for my birthday my dad let me drive his car at this event a 2001 boxster with chip, intake, cat back, M030 with H&R springs, hard top, big brakes, pilot sport cups 265 in back and 225 in front, light weight flywheel and upgraded clutch.
So I went to my 3rd DE early this week, it was at Watkins glen. I made huge improvements over my 2 days and was checked off to solo! (my instructor timed my first solo lap 2:34 full track I’m sure I got it into the high 2:20’s by the end of the day) When soloing I was able to play with my line in my now much lighter car. I first worked on turn 1. I was exiting turn 1 at 69 time after time playing with turn in and breaking zones, then I got it right, although it felt slow I was now exiting at 74. The bus stop felt slow at 77. The esses are a blast put your foot to the floor after apexing turn 1 and leave it there till about the 200 mark before the bus stop(big brakes and HP+ pads are a lot of fun)
I used the bus stop and the carousel as places to catch slow cars, the boxster will not win any drag races. The funny part was catching people going up the toe of the boot even when they have an extra 100hp on me I should not have been able to.
The 2nd day was the best day I’ve had in a LONG time. I had a great time at the track kept upping my personal best and passing my friends; I was not passed all day and did not hold any one up. After the event as I was changing tires a semi pulls up and out comes a lemans prototype car! They let me get up close to it and I got to see all the spare carbon under trays extra motor and really everything they had for the car! (picture of the car, http://www.autoextremist.com/cars/janua ... msjt10.jpg)
To make things even more interesting it was the press release of the new 997 turbo very fast cars! Wish I could have scored a ride in one.
If that wasn’t a good enough way to end the day the guy who drove the Porsche Carrera GT was also getting ready to leave when I was loading the trailer, I started talking to him and ended up getting a short ride in it. I really love the sound of that V10! Before the day ended I was passed by another Carrera GT, I have to say Watkins glen has to be the best place on earth and I cant wait till I get a chance to drive that track again next year.
as for my miata, its starting to turn into a track car;)

Re: Amazing time at Watkins Glen
Congrats and aweome! WG is sooo much fun
FYI: three day event still has openings Sept. 1 - 3. - "Classic Coach Classic" at Watkins Glen. It just doesn't get any better than 3 days at the Glen. The Radisson (607-962-5000) will be the host hotel. Convertibles must have roll over protection (360 & 430 Spiders are acceptable - pop up roll bars are not).

I'll see what I can do that sounds like it would be a great time! I’m still working on the miata (I’m thinking it would be way out classed but still fun to drive) but it should pass if I can get the seat a little lower. It has a 4 point hard dog bar in it already. The Boxster has roll bar extensions on it (I’m pretty sure the cobra imola 2 gt's, 6 points, fire extinguisher and bar extensions were from HMS.) I don’t know if I can get the car from my dad for another event, no harm in asking him though. At least I’m getting another "fix" in July at NHIS.
My other issue is I’m a full time student who will be on co-op in September. It really gets in the way of racing but pays the bills. I already need time off to move and I don’t know how many days I can play hooky. Thanks for the info, man would I love to see Ferrari’s tearing it up at the glen!
