WTB Passenger seat and belts

Post by 75 Tom » Wed Oct 02, 2013 11:36 am

Looking to add a passenger seat and belts to my 1990 SSM Miata. Looking for seat and belts that can be installed without a lot of modifications. Will also need any hardware to attach seat and belts.

I have one of these (well, actually I ave two, but one will be going into my own Miata, so we can probably swap notes on how to best install it there): http://www.jazproducts.com/poly_bucket_seats.html

Mine comes with a cover as well.

i installed one into my 944 because of the passenger seat rules most clubs have .
if your looking to have some one sit in it when on the track forget it they are not in any way made for road course use !
don't thing the belts will hold you in place they don't .
other then being dirt cheap there is nothing good about them . the covers fit like crap and it's better with them off if you want some one to ride along with you .
if your thinking of putting your instructor in the seat he will hate you for it !
they are not a safe seat at all the rules state you have to have the same for your instructor as you have for the driver in safety gear . the rules may not state seats but seats are in fact part of any safety gear . i'm sure Will M. will say it's ok but you might want to ask him 1st about it because with out a back brace on the seat it will float around ( it's plastic ) .

as for mounting the seats it ez you need to build a simple mount to bolt to the seat base to the 4 nuts on the under side then it bolts to the 4 mounting points from the old seat .
the down side in a miata is the broom stick rule . any one over 5' 10" will not fit and pass the test with that seat as the base it quight thick .
you should find your self a spec miata seat . yes they cost more but when your finished with it sell it they sell fast and you should not lose any money when you sell it off . it's a safe seat and your passenger will love you for taking there safety in mind as you should !

You forget one important thing (and the reason I've bought them). They are _light_. That's the whole point.

I'm an autocross guy and mine is a CSP car. The only requirement for us - "full sized and fully upholstered" passenger seat. these are dirt cheap, lighter than stock, pretty easy to mount and fit that bill. it also discourages potential passengers :) Can't speak for SSM car and, yes, the rule book should be consulted first. But for $50 or even with the cover that I'm looking to get... did I mention cheap?

my hole point to what i'm saying is there only to get you by the passenger seat rule that's why i put one in my 944 .
it's lighter than a petty bar would be and easier to install then one but that's about it for the good about them .

I guess I should have been more clear about what I was looking for. I currently have a Kirkey drivers seat and I am looking for a used aluminum seat "Ultrashield or Kirkey seat or something similar and a set of in spec belts that I can fit-up my Miata with for the upcoming NHMS event.

Thanks Tom
