Summit Point 2013 videos & pictures

Post by wizzman » Wed May 01, 2013 9:06 pm

Despite the conditions I had a great time at the event and racked up quite a few laps. Here is my TT:

Here is the last practice session where it was kind of dry then got wet all of a sudden at T1 which didn't go well for me:

Dave....that was smooooooth! Very nicely done. Great camera angle, too.

Steve...was that a Spec Miata race? Looks like that was a fun session. :)

Dave, you can brake at the two mark. Except when wet.

Nice save Chris I was watching you from start/finish and it looked spectacular from there.
This isn't my best TT performance but I think I still pulled off a good lap time.

Dam. You should submit that video to CERN. You're camera's picking up distortions in the space/time continuum as you approach escape velocity on the front straight.

I watched your run Chad from the timing truck, it was fun watching you tear around turn 10 and down the straight. When that car hits boost it is just crazy. Nice job taming the beast.

God damn Chad that thing must be an absolute beast to drive. Watching the speeds climb at the rate they do is almost baffling. Whoever built that engine did a damn good job!

Nice driving too.

Chris, what tires were you on in your video? Clearly very slippery.

BFG R1. They were sticky in the dry but were a handful in the damp, less grip than an R6 even.

Looked like you would have been better off on streets if you still have them. I thought you had wets?

The wets would have worked well. The problem was the track started out fairly dry so that was the tire choice made at the time, it didn't start raining again until I was strapping in - too late!

From what I saw, the wet tires that were needed on Monday & Tuesday never extended beyond shaved wets. It never really rained either day - when it was wet, it was due to just enough drizzle and mist to make it exciting on drys while not being wet enough for full-depth wets. I ran 4/32nds intermediate wets to 1:28.3 in the damp on Tuesday morning, and they were like warm taffy when I came in - there wasn't nearly enough water on the track for them. It was basically solid overcast with the temp steady at 55-60 degrees both days. Tire selection was a crapshot in group 5 with Joseph Lu and Glenn Schattman, and we were lucky that the track remained dry enough for us; if it had started up again while we were watching Bruce, Chad and Fred in group 4 run, we would have been skating around like Chris.
