Car classification.
G'morning.
I looked through the rule guide and performed a search but was not able to find the answer on classification.
I have a 1992 lexus sc400 V8. I was not able to find this car listed on the guide.
Also I couldn't find an entry for transmission swap from automatic to manual.
My question I guess is what class would this car fall into?
Specs are.
1992 lexus sc400 V8
Fuel computer
Manual transmission conversion(from auto to 5speed) (from a toyota supra)
LSD added (from toyota supra)
full coilover with dampener
full poly-U bushings.
anti-sway bars front and rear
4 pot brakes (from toyota supra)
SS braided lines
aftermarket disks and ceramic pads
Strust tower bar (front only)
long headders and 2.5" exhaust (cats retained)
wider and lower profile tires on larger wheels.
Chasis strengthening beams
aero kit (permanently fixed)
lighter seats (from toyota supra)
replaced steering wheel (smaller diameter from toyota celica, airbag function retained)
Carbon fiber/fiberglass hood (with hood pins)
longer wheelstuds
5mm spacers
I think that's all the items that affect classes.
If someone can help me figure out where this car is classed, it would be much appreciated.
thank you.

Do you have a roll bar or cage?
The final authority on vehicle classification would be Chief Steward Nate Hine (nateh@sover.net).

Sounds like an SPA car to me. The trans. swap is the most glaring item that would bump you up. Be aware that any SP or higher class needs a minimum of a roll bar and 5 point belts. Good items to have anyways. The brake swap may open some eyes as well. SPA is turning into a very competitive class and is usually well attended. Welcome.

I am not the man with the rules, but at first glance you will need to remove the following:
1) Go back to auto or maybe place a manual from the same model line (still questionable)
2) were your brakes from the toyota supra installed w/o brackets or modification to them? If so, you need to back to stock pods
3) aero kit (permanently fixed): how extensive is the kit?
4) go back to the stock steering wheel (I think)
5) go back to the stock hood
6) Remove spacers

Come on Down!
That car NEEDS 5 point belts and at least a roll bar-- as required by SP. There are bolt-in roll bars from Autopower or the like and th cost of the bar and belts will be a small fraction of the $$ you have already put into goodies.
Come on out and play!
Another solution: On your first school day you will not be drving fast and you learn more with a lower performance car. What else do you have available to you. Anything with decent street handling will be fine. Power irrelevant.

I just placed order for a 10 point weld on cage, 5point harness and a new driver seat, and full suit.
I guess I have to pay to play.
My other car is an lexus rx300. It does have eibach lowering springs, tokico shocks and ceramic pads, but I'm not sure that can race =).
The SC400 is a pig, even with a V8. I'm only putting down around 240whp and 260wtq and the car weighs in around 3400lbs. pretty slow...
Going back to auto won't be an option... too much work..
the brakes were a direct swap, it used the same factory mounting points and hardware with no modification. The factory brakes ceased so they are no longer good.
Aero kit is mostly cosmetic, the wale tail is supposed to give a modest 30-50lbs at 60mph.
I needed the spacers to clear the bigger brakes so if I remote them I'm need new set of wheels also....
I guess I'll attempt to bring it up to code ASAP.
I'd love to come out and play and I'll try like mad.
thank you all for the help.

Not custom fabbed.TTA89 wrote:Someone actually makes a 10 point "kit" for a SC400 or are you having it custom fabbed?
3400lbs is far from what I would consider a pig, I would have guessed it weighs a lot more than that. I rode in an SC300 with a Supra drivetrain swap, really fun sleeper car.
S&W makes a 10 point kit for the SC400 $250.

type in lexus on the search box.
When I spoke to them, they said someone had a custom set made and gave them permission to use it as template, so they started selling them.
The car started out around 3700lbs out of the factory. The biggest weight loss came from the seats. 8way powered, heated seats... the seats weighed 90lbs each. The seats i have are 35lbs and 30lbs so shaved 115lbs right off.
The supra drivetrain swap is awesome, but too many people already performed that swap, i wanted to take a different approach with the V8 and manual swap.
