NHIS requires SCCA to have hot pit helmets for pit lane

Post by brucesallen » Wed Mar 29, 2006 12:27 pm

SCCA registration for 4/23 NHIS race is open. Supplementals list NHIS rules as requiring helmets in hot pits for EVERYONE! Only helmet requirement is that it have a strap!
Does this apply to us?

Pretty funny that the "Live Free or Die" state, which does not require motorcyclists to wear helmets, should come up with this regulation.

Does the new regulation apply if we are sitting on motorcycles?

Bruce, it does apply to us.

Word for word from the COM-NHIS contract:

"On Track Personnel:

The renter must ensure that all of its members, participants, agents and employees shall wear a protective helmet while on track, including the pit area, and when responding to an incident on the track, at all times when there are vehicles on the track."

I have a Bell Mag4 sa90 size 7-3/8 open face helmet to donate to COMSCC or any race team or club that might need an extra. It has a chinstrap, probably not ideal for corner workers b/c of radio communications. It was used 5 times. I can bring it to COM April event if any one wants it.
