COM License requirements
My apologies if I missed the answer in my search; I am wondering how one gets licensed, specifically for the open track sessions at NHMS coming up at the end of the month. This is my first full year but I have karting background (real karts, road racing and sprint) and I've been able to get out a lot and have progressed with PCA (ran with white last outing), Audi (red) and BMW, all solo. Is licensing as simple as a checkout ride(s)?
Re: COM License requirements
In theory, yes.
All first time participants with COM, regardless of previous experience, register as students.
Those with lots of previous experience should contact the chief instructor after registering for the event.
Depending on the amount of experience, we can arrange for a check ride.
The purpose of the check ride is to:
1. Verify the driver's ability
2. Observe the driver's on-track behavior relative to COM rules (passing, point-bys, flags) and expected track etiquette.
An instructor will be in the car until the driver completes a successful check ride. Upon the completion of a successful check ride, the driver will be assigned to the appropriate run group for the remainder of the day and will be issued a COM license.
Hope this helps,
