Miata Vandalized - be on lookout

Post by 6PAK72 » Sat Mar 05, 2011 7:25 pm

COM Gang,

Liz and I left our Smurf Miata at Apex Auto for some work last week. On Friday night instant, the passenger window was broken open, and the interior was gutted of all performance worthy components:

2 Momo F-1 fiberglass seats
2 Miata NA seat sliders
2 Autopower 3" 5-point harnesses and all mounting point hardware - expiration date 8-2011
1 Momo 300mm firm covering steering wheel - no release hub, this was a hex-key style mount
1 MOSS wide-view rear view clamp mirror
Assorted Acu-guage 2.5" white-face gauges with bezels painted black
1 18-oz Halon fire extinguisher
1 400-watt Boston Acoustics amp
1 NA open differential

Apex is not insured for this type of issue, and of course, our insurance company does not cover "race" or "non-stock" equipment, so if you happen to stumble across a good deal on seats, harnesses etc, we would appreciate a tip.

So much for being ready for the test day...

Beyond terrible. But I'm unable to come up with the better word. "I'm sorry" is the best that I can find...

Jeff, sorry to hear about this. I'll be on the lookout for any "deals" on craigslist. Good luck.

Jeff, sorry to hear. That sucks. You might consider that the insurance company is still on the hook for the stock parts which may have about the same purchase value as the non-stock parts. Tell them you will settle for a check for the value of the stock wheel with working air bag, new stock seats, belts...

Les is running this by his corporate insurance, and I've talked to Amica - it looks like we might get the stock seats and wheel covered, although there were some questions about why we would be replacing the seats...

The company that we use to insure the TR6 - Heacock - offers race car insurance, and I will be looking into that.

Thanks to everyone who has offered sympathy and parts. We'll get it back together.

Was there any camera footage? I thought that area of the lot was covered.

As I mentioned before, i have a few spares lying around, most notably, the seat, that you can have to get you moving.

Also, you are welcome to drive my car if you need to until the Angry Smurf is back together.

So sorry to hear about that Jeff & Luke.

I've had my car parked there many times without issue. My Subaru sat out there for most of 2010...untouched.

Anyway, Apex was closed all of last week as Les was away. He should be back today, reach out to him if you haven't already.

I don't have spares of any of the parts you are missing. :(

Did they at least do a "clean" pull? Sometimes the damage is worse than the parts that are missing.

Meeting Les's adjuster and our adjuster on Wednesday. There was another COM car damaged both gutting and physically.

I know Les feels awful about it, and he's been great about getting the video over to the Marlboro PD. There's an hour of video of the 2 guys pulling stuff out of the cars, so maybe they will be caught. I think fair retribution would have them riding under a COM car at NH...
