Hybrid classing

Post by eclip5e » Thu Jan 13, 2011 7:48 pm

I don't see anything in the rules about hybrids.

With a 1.5l engine and a hybrid system, would I be correct in thinking that 122hp of hybrid power from the new Honda CR-Z could be competitive in ST4?

Because now that my Impreza is toast. I'm finally emotionally stable enough to start considering my options.

Oh no! I guess we have to deal with it. And the electric golf carts coming out. Nate: what are the kilowatt to weight ratios? Do we handicap based on battery chemistry? LiMh bumps you up? Or we could outlaw them all-- like nitrous.

Should be pretty easy, 1 kilowatt = 1.34102209 horsepower

I would go with Jonathan's formula for now. See how it goes, then revise as necessary. Battery capacity might be an important complicating factor, but it's hard to guess a priori.

I'm looking forward to having the hybrids. Another bit of technical coolness!

http://www.crzforum.com/forum/general-d ... -dyno.html

The dyno numbers, in concert with a sub 2700lb weight and a good suspension could make it formidible in SSC/ST4, though with those power and weight numbers one could argue that the car belongs in SSB/ST3 if the NB and NC Miatas are there with roughly the same numbers.

I think it could be a very interesting choice Ron. It certainly could change a lot of minds about the potential of hybrid technology......in a track car.
