Helmet Acceptable?

Hey, I am a new member with a stock NB miata, installing a double hoop roll bar (http://www.bossfrog.biz/Miata_Rollbars.html), getting 5-point belts and arm restraints, and I want to buy that helmet.

Is there anything else I need to do to be able to run?

Welcome to COM !

Of course, you've printed the current rules and studied a bit, right? You're on the right track with the Boss Frog bar.

The helmet is OK, but don't be misled by the "Snell approved" in the ad copy - This is a motorcycle helmet, rated M2005. It will be acceptable for our events as per current rules, but it may not be acceptable with other organizations or tracks. For example, NJMP requires SA helmets - no motorcycle helmets allowed. Their rules override ours.

I'd look a bit more and get an SA helmet - minimum SA2005, better SA2010

Welcome to the club!

HJC makes a nice helmet, I have an AR-10 which is SA rated and has a washable removeable liner (very nice feature). Look around for SA2005 closeouts, not much more than the one you picked out. You won't be disapointed with it.

Just another tip, don't bother trying to save a few bucks and buy a latch type harness, they are a PITA to get in and out of. There are very good camlocks available for cheap, like the G-force Pro series for $160 or so. Especially if you are going to be using arm restraints.

Cheap head, cheap helmet.

Save your pennies, buy the best safety gear you can - a good helmet, a 2 or 3 layer fire suit or underwear, and I agree with Gordon - Cam lock is the way to go on the harness.

Liz and I have HJC helmets, good quality for good money, changeable shields, good venting, removeable interior padding.

See you in May!
