Mark Swinehart is the keeper of the numbers. Contact him directly with any specific request.

It would be great if these #'s were posted somewhere.

In practice, Mark will not assign you a car number until you register
for an event. You can ask if a number is available, but it won't be
assigned to you until you actually register. Once a number is
assigned to you, it's yours as long as you keep using it (at least one
event a year).

Reserved/Assigned Car Numbers

Post by boltonite » Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:28 pm

Question for current members:

Do members want to have a listing of reserved (or available) car numbers?
Are there other things that would help with car #s?

We are reviewing membership and car numbers and want member input. Thx.

So,where does one find this poll?
I think a list of numbers available would be nice. I also like the idea that a number remains yours as long as you remain an active member. I got my current number by accident..I filled out the registration for a COM event, and used my SVTOA/NESVT number by accident... and it just so happened that it was available, and it was then assigned to me... :D

There is no poll per se, just a follow-up inquiry to see what people think (original post edited). Thanks! -FF

It would be nice to be able to see a list of available numbers or a list of numbers already taken. I like having decent looking numbers on my car so I come to events with a couple reusable vinyl numbers (individual digits that can be arranged as needed). I don't have every digit so I can't do every possible random number assigned to me.

I can see posting a list of available numbers for new assignments, but to make a list available for folks who want to change their number sounds like a lot of potential busy work for our registrar.

Some people probably do want to change numbers, with our without a list being published. Letting people see what #s are actually available (like here) should at least reduce pointless requests.

Perhaps with a member data base directory listing, you can organize all members, active status, contact info (if avail), and car number all in one. might be a long list but you can search. Not sure if the website can host such an interface though.

Nice list. Thanks for putting that together. I could have used it a few weeks ago when I was in this exact situation. I was buying new numbers for the side of my car, and used it as a good opportunity to change my number. I contacted Mark and got a new number.

Be careful with this list, though, because it doesn't appear to be updated (i.e. it still lists my old number).

My old number is also listed there. Changed to 41 when I registered for this event.
