Potential New Bee
I been doing Open Track and HPDE for 16 years, many years ago a friend recommended COM.
I recently became interested in some of the venues especially WG & NJMP
What safety equipment is required for the HPDE, what additional is required for the TT
This is the car I plan on using
1995 Mustang Street Legal
MM K member and Coilovers
MM Pan hard Bar and RLCAS
Brembo 4 piston front brakes
351W 4 bbl
TKO 6 Speed
Hoosier DOT race tires
Autopower 4 Point Bolt in Roll Bar
Simpson 6 Point belts more than 3 years old
SA2005 helmet
Hans Device

That looks like an SPA car to me. It appears you have all the proper equipment. I would just suggest a race suit also. It is not required till you get into the prepared classes but a good idea nontheless.

The MM K-member bumps you to PA. You need up to date harnesses for you and your instructor, fire suit and a window net. If you have a race seat, you need one for your instructor as well. You already have the cage. The same safety equipment is required for HPDE and the TT.
Sounds like a really fun Mustang!

Thanks for the info.
New Harnesses , Fire Suit, window net, will set me back a few more dollars then I want to spend right now.
That $100 off your first event does not look as good now.

There are plenty of near stock american cars that go with a tubular subframe just to cut weight off the nose and give more room for exhaust

Re: Potential New Bee
let me start by sating i don't know much about the mustang's . i don't work on them in my shop that much . the last one i worked on the owner draged racer it and the car was always running hot so i did some mod's to keep the motor temps down . but from what i know about the k-member swap there are some great improvements over the stock set up . the first is that now the motor can get pushed back about an inch . becouse now the suspension can be set up better it will also improve the camber , change the roll center , that will reduce the cars understeer . so insted of the LOL . think for a minute !!!!! would it be fair to run that car in a SP class were you can't do a subframe change ? so with the subframe change you now can run front coil over and tubular control arms . o-ya thats even more fair to have a car that you can do all that to and running with cars that have stock pick up points on there suspension . so that rule does make sense .
Re: Potential New Bee
Yeah, it is not just the few pounds saved, it is all the other benefits listed above that cause the bump to "P". Would you really swap out the subframe for a few pounds savings? Maybe, but to get improved suspention geometry and alter your center of gravity, that is a mod worth doing. The great thing about Prepared classes, you can do whatever you want, but get the right safety equipment to go with the speed.
I built my car as an ST car, first thing in was the full cage. I wouldn't go out on track without it, a HANS, and a fire suit even thou it isn't required for ST. But that is just me.

i do not under stand why sciff5 is so bitter about his car haing to be in a P class ? most all the classing of our cars makes sense . a motor swap from a 1.3L to a 5.7L motor will , does and should bump you out of the SP classes and move you up to the P classes . when it comes to suspension mod's like changing out a subframe some cars will get more gains than other cars but you have to make the rules for all makes and models of cars .

Re: Potential New Bee
If I want to participate in the HPDE only would, would I still be required to have the window net and fire suit?

Re: Potential New Bee
like dan stated ! but also you will have to have the same up to date belts for your instructor as you have for your self .the down side is that if you register for day 2 (the TT day) it realy messes me up when i order the trophies . even if you don't do the time trails .
Re: Potential New Bee
So the rules dont apply for the HPDEs?

Re: Potential New Bee
kind of ! it will be over look just a little at times . but you should put your car in the proper class even for DE . when going thru the tech line you may get told that your car is miss classed and to classify it correctly .

Re: Potential New Bee
I think thats the problem with SP and P rules. They are not fair and equal for all makes and models. Some cars can swap in a V8 and stay in SP, when some cars can't. Some cars can have fender flares and stay in SP, but some cars can't. Some cars can do a custom frame, but others cannot.962porsche wrote:i do not under stand why sciff5 is so bitter about his car haing to be in a P class ? most all the classing of our cars makes sense . a motor swap from a 1.3L to a 5.7L motor will , does and should bump you out of the SP classes and move you up to the P classes . when it comes to suspension mod's like changing out a subframe some cars will get more gains than other cars but you have to make the rules for all makes and models of cars .
If its a street car, like this Mustang or Sciffs RX7, it should be in Street Prepared. Thats the spirit of the class. I see it as a problem with the rules, not the car, if a legitimate street car gets bumped into Prepared.

Re: Potential New Bee
it would be impossible to make the rule perfect for all cars ! i don't know of any other car that you can remove a 1.3L motor and swap in a 5.7L motor and still stay in the sp class ? what car can you do that to ? i see no rules on the spirit ! just plain rules in writing . as a steward i don't and can't make calls on spirit only whats in the rule book . we try to make is as fer for all kinds of cars (ALL KINDS ) if you don't like a RULE submit a rule change . it may get a yes vote or it may get a no vote . thats called democracy !
