(UPDATED) Road work info for those going to Tremblant...

Post by Jet Jockey » Fri Jul 30, 2010 2:28 pm

I'm just posting this and a public service announcement for the people travelling north to Tremblant for the event next Monday and Tuesday.

Please be aware that this coming weekend especially Sunday August 01, a lot of Canadians and vacationers are coming back to Canada. You should plan on delays crossing the border at customs due to the vacationers coming back in big numbers, especially from mid afternoon on, on Sunday.

Also there is a lot of road work happening on the major highways in the Montreal are. This will affect the Champlain Bridge for those using highway 10 into Montreal. Highway 10 becomes highway 15 once you pass the bridge and at “l’échagueur Turcot” on highway 15 where a bunch of highways meet the exit for highway 720 east and highway 20 west are closed and will surely affect the north bound traffic on highway 15.UPDATE... Disregard the previous part also shown as section "A" on the maps. I just drove by there today (Saturday) and the roads were all open with no construction in sight! I guess the government's web site is not up to date.Part of highway 15 is known as the “Decarie Autoroute”, it’s the sunken portion of highway 15, at its north or top end between the “Jean Talon” exit and Highway 40 also known as Boulevard Metropolitain expect some delay due to road work. Most of you I’m sure are going to take the 40 eastbound to re-intercept highway 15 north which now becomes the “Laurentian Autoroute”. There is major work being done at the intersection of Highway 15 and highway 640 and you may see some delays there but since you are north bound I expect this delay to be minor in nature. Most people will be coming back from the Laurentians south bound. A little further north, in the Blainville area on highway 15 there is more road work but delay should be minimal. There might be other work going on the further north you go on highway 15 but these should cause minimal delays.

For those coming in from New York State and using highway 15, 30, route 132, route 138 and the Mercier Bridge expect delays there too. Mercier Bridge will close one lane in each direction starting Friday night and won’t open those lanes until Monday morning.

Sorry for the bad news, safe travels to Tremblant. Hope you guys have a fun and safe time on the track. I won’t be there as a competitor because on Tuesday I’m leaving on a 4 day trip. I might show up on Monday to visit with some friends from the Boston area and some from Montreal that are competing in the event.

Cheers,

Mike

My pleasure! I hope the traffic situation on the roads and at the border crossing is minimal for you guys coming up on Sunday.

Also the province of Quebec as new photo radars up and running so beware of those. They are along the some of the highways and in particular on Highway 15 after you cross the Champlain Bridge and before you get to the Décarie Autoroute. There are big warning signs before you enter the zone. The speed limit in that area is 70 kph or ~45 mph IIRC. Of course all you guys know radar detectors are illegal in Quebec right?

Well, after all is said and done, there were No delays at the border according to all I spoke with. Travel through Montreal was the easiest I have seen.

Yes I was checking the various government web sites during the day and I was amazed on how little traffic there was.

I guess the vacationers decided to come back earlier on the weekend or they are still travelling and will be back at a later date!

Anyway it is good to see that everyone made it OK without delays.

Haha, just drove through Montreal yesterday...

Champlain bridge closed and a mile long line at the Canadian border: when I say long, I mean long. We were lucky last week.

I believe the return from vacation happened a week later this year. Traffic around Montreal was light last week but sort of back to normal today (heavy).
