Sectional times

Post by xstar » Tue Jan 24, 2006 4:11 pm

In the quest of getting better at driving, is there anyone out there who may be interested in sectional times at each track? Sectional times may help each driver improve his/her driving in various parts of the track.

Since many of us use HotLap timers and own transponders, how do people feel about setting up 3 donor transponders in different places on the track? (all on the same side of the track of course)

I understand this method will tax our math skillz, which may be rusty from age :D , but adding 3 times for a lap time shouldn't be difficult.

What do you think?

It would be GREAT to get segment times, but I wouldn't want to give up quick and easy to view lap times. Unfortunately, this is one of those decisions that effects everyone with a Hot Lap.

There are companies that make similar timers but offer split lap options. Ultra Lap Timers is one I know about. The transponders can be switched between 'main' and 'slave', referring to either 'lap' or 'segment', and allows the unit to record and display both.

Anyone have one? How do they work compared to the Hot Lap timers? I could be swayed into ditching the Hot Lap timer for one of these. They look good, but I have no personal experience. I'd be worried about the brightness of the display and if it washes out in direct sunlight. The HLT display, as primitive as it seems, is actually easy to read, even in direct sunlight. :D

You both have good points. One thought would be to allow split times during the morning sessions. This would allow practice and experiments. Display only overall times during the afternoon sessions for the speed freaks and Miata drivers.
