Please recommend a floor jack - done with cheap stuff

Post by peterfontana » Sun Sep 20, 2009 3:16 pm

Hi,

I'd like to hear your recommendations for a floor jack. I'm basically looking for something reasonably light and sturdy. Quick initial take-up is nice. It will be going in my tool box on the trailer I tow behind my 911, so cast iron behemoths might not work.

I've had a few of the cheap aluminum "race" jacks and am done with this form of excitement.

What do you like?

The inexpensive chinese built alu "racing" jacks are not bad once you replace the seals/O-rings with good stuff. I have had a few,and they are either fine for years or junk right out of the box. A quick reseal usually makes them dependable for track use. Even some of the better $300-400 alu "racing" jacks are made in China,so it is difficult to get away from the problem.

Wally world has them for around $100 as well.

Thanks for all the input. I have ordered the Harbor Freight "less cheap" alternative: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=40105 .

I was kind of surprised to learn that there are Harbor Freight stores in the area. Peter - there is one right in North Attleboro...
