Is there a way to flip a video on Youtube?

Post by breakaway500 » Wed Aug 26, 2009 1:35 pm

I got a Go-Pro video camera which came with no directions. So,of course I mounted it upside down.Is there any way to flip the video taken to right side up? When I uploaded it to my laptop, the picture software would not allow me to flip it. It does allow pictures to be flipped, but not video. I thought it might be possible to upload it to Youtube and then flip it..but it does not seem possible. Not a great video anyway, but was wondering if it is possible to flip video taken. I will figure a way to mount the camera correctly.... 8)

Thanks,Bruce. Dan D just emailed me a copy. There is a way to record with the camera upside down and have it come out right-side up!

How do you like it otherwise? I was thinking of getting one from DSG pretty soon.

Hi Paul.It actually is a nice unit.Even without the directions,I (we..)were able to take 5 still photos (don't ask...) and one 3 minute out lap at the Glen before the wimpy 128mb SD memory card ran out of room. The camera has the ability to be programmed ahead of time that it is upside down and to flip the image. (ah...instructions....)

A two GB card will give you 1 hr. of video. The mounts that come with the kit are very versatile. The camera is actually easy to use even with a gloved finger to push the start button Here is a link to the upside down movie I took.Video quality is good...audio could be better by removing some rubber plug and turning up the volume. It's an out lap from WG2 with the NEQ club. Perfect weather for two days and mostly full 30 minute sessions. :sunny:

Don't waste your time w/ the 2g card .... an hour goes much faster than you would think, esp. if you can't reach the start/stop buttons or forget .... have 3 - 2g cards and will get larger for next yr ..... just my .02 .... Pat

Pat,the Gopro website says not to use anything larger than a 2gb sd card. Have you tried anything larger than the 2? Something about the format for the >2 cards is not compatible with the camera?

Frequently asked question #5:

What is the largest memory card the camera will take?
The largest card is a 2GB standard SD memory card. The camera will not recognize larger cards

Anything is better than the 128mb card it comes with.. :?

Thanks for the feedback.

Too bad they don't have a remote control with it; that is what I use to do with my video recorder in my scion, I just don't have a means of mounting that in the Miata, and when I did use it I realized a wide angle lens would have been a big improvement.

Right now I don't have a roll bar and thought this go-pro would be nice to mount in the miata; maybe I'll fold off until next year though and see what happens with roll bar and such. If I can mount my Canon video camera that would be ideal.

Paul, the Go-pro mounts on the windshield easily.I can reach the on/off button from my very low mounted Saferacer seat, buckled in,just fine. Great gizmo for the money.

I use a bullet cam w/ an Aptiek recoder ..... sorry, not the same as GoPro ..... just know that from my seating position I can reach the recorder but stil manage to chew thru memory cards during a weekend .... the other setup we run has an Aptiek HD & we run the 8g cards, much much better .....esp. w/ the memory lapses we tend to have ....

GoPro batteries. I have had several dissappointments especially in the cold (skiing helment cam) so I use non-rechargable Lithium Ion batteries only.

The Gopro directions state to use only the Lithium as Alkaline batteries quickly fail in cold temps and during high vibration situations. NiMH rechargeable batteries are OK,but for max reliability GOPRO recommends Energizer Lithium above all else.

The rechargeable batteries seem to work fine in the warmer weather. Pat , the GoPro is cheap compared to what you are using. I had been selling the GoPros for $160- but they have gone up to $169-. I also sell some other small camera units which have a "lip stick" camera you can mount on your helmet with the recorder in your pocket. Some of these even have MP3 players and viewing screens but can coat up to $1000- . For the price the GoPro works great.

That is what I like about it (would be great for autox now as I don't have a roll bar). However, the season is almost over, and I am planning on a bar for next season. I'll hold off until then, as I might be able to do a roll bar mount for my video camera (which will do great for autox and HPDE events).

Just one more thing to add to the "to do / to buy" list for next season! :D

I am still telling myself that I will not do seats or harnesses in this miata considering my experience with the last car and insurance (although my left knee hurts for 2-days after an autox from being against my door panel!). I'd still like to check out your miata setup sometime though, bring it to an autox!
