construction at NHMS affecting course?

Post by Neptune441 » Tue May 19, 2009 8:44 pm

Well today i decided i'd take a trip into NHMS , to see what was going on as the bmw club had their meet today. I couldn't help but notice only 1 tunnel entrance as the other was being used for construction entrance and exit only. My question lies in turn 2a and 2b , Since there's a big mound of dirt there is COM going to be utilizing the south oval and making it into a mini chicane? Also too they are re-working the drainage around the track itself since i hear that it floods about once a year. I was talking to one of the corner workers on turn 3 and she was telling me that since the construction is going on the owner of the track might also move the race at NHMS and not have a race at NHMS, i don't know how much of that is true but with the amount of dirt that is in that infield it's a huge mess. I was also told that there is a new road course being designed but is still going to utilize the bowl , i'm wondering if this course is going to be run doing the bowl in reverse the way it used to be run back 20 yrs ago ( thats just a guestimate) If anyone out there has any insight into this i think it would be great starting point for a great thread.

Maybe Sam has been in contact with the track and has some answers. I was going to attend the May 28th test session, but?

Yeah i hope that he does have alittle insight, don't get me wrong, I think it would be cool to utilize that oval, but 2a and 2b are alot of fun,

Who knows? I sure don't, but I will lay 2:1 odds that:
a. The work is done before the NASCAR race in late June.
b. The race will NOT be cancelled (might even give you 10:1 on that).
c. Unless Speedway Motorsports qualifies for some of your grand childrens welfare money coming out of Washington, a new road course is a bad rumor.

Of course, I have no idea what is happening.

The construction drop dead finish date is June 5. We often forget that there are "other" events beside cars at NHMS. The Loudon Motorcycle Classic is running the second week of June. Two weeks later the Sprint Cup.
Turns 1, 2a and 2b will be the same as always, except MAYBE a new coat of tar.
The Sprint Cup security and safety operations manual was rolling off the press today. Bette got to play with the NH SP, and BATF yesterday. They set up the different scenarious of fires, explosions, and miscellaneous other possible disasters for all the big events, so Bette was setting off explosives with the boys!
Any new road course is taking a seat way at the back of the class room due to many other construction projects on the agenda.

Apparently the drop-dead date has been rolled forward.

The White Mountain BMW Chapter's event on June 5th has been canceled. Stated reason is the ongoing/unfinished work on the south chicane.

Hello everyone!

All i have to say is WOW! NHMS has undergone a SERIOUS lift. I was there this afternoon doing tickets for Nascar and made my way over to the turn 2a-2b chicane and it does look like they repaved that section.... i know one things for sure they definitely repaved that infield it was a shock, but i believe it added value to the track, although i wish they would've kept that pond but i suppose when it comes to making money to fit some more people in, do what you have to do.

Thanks for the update Adrian. I am holding off on visiting the track and bugging the Ops people until after this weekend.

Last night they were showing practice for this weekend NASCAR races and there were a few good shots of the south chicane. It looks to be fully paved and smooth. :sunny:
