Optional weight penalty for rule compliance?
Is it possible to allow for an optional weight penalty in order to stay in a car class? The only mod I have that is not allowed in SP is a lexan rear window. Could I get approval to run an additional ballast penalty in lieu of the window?
weight penalty
Sure, how's about 800 lbs?
Seriously, there is no "formal" mechanism in the rules for it, and I think that if we started bending the "bump up one class provision" we'd start a big wave of drivers willing to trade a particular modification for a little (well placed) weight.
Personally I'd be willing to let you add the weight of the removed window back in. As long as it was mounted to the roof of course
Any one else have an opinion?

oh yeah I have an opinion !
I was aware of the Lexan window- but my comment when I first saw it was "it doesn't matter if he adds lead windows". You won't get protested from me because I know it's not the difference maker between your car and mine. BUT I do like Tom's idea of 800 lbs on top of the roof
On the subject of a weight penalty, it would be very difficult to come up with a weight per rule infringement formula. Is a supercharger worth the same penalty as a non-conforming dashboard ? Of course not. Too hard to police and regulate.
Greg I think your best solution is to run on 5 cylinders.
